My Simple Womans Daybook

FOR TODAY: Happy Halloween

Outside my window . . . It's raining out there today. Not as bad as snow, I know but have decided that the Snowbirds must be bringing all this bad weather with them from up North.

I am thinking . . . I haven't posted anything since last Monday so that means it's been a rather boring week.

I am thankful . . . For a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home.

From the learning rooms . . . (if this applies)

In the kitchen . . .
I am wearing . . . navy blue sweats, maroon duofold top and slippers

I am creating . . .

I am going . . . to start getting my 'cold clothes' out of storage and giving them a fresh wash.

I am wondering . . . what happened to the Halloween party that we were supposed to have today?

I am reading . . .

I am hoping . . . that the rain stops in time for the kids to trick or treat tonight.

Around the house . . . ironing is on the menu today.

I am pondering . . .  What am I ready to tackle this Fall?  What changes or fixes have I been putting off?

One of my favorite things . . . a grilled cheese sandwich with a bowl of tomato soup

A few plans for the rest of the week . . . All Saints Day Mass on Tuesday, Hand & Foot Tournament followed by card Bingo on Wednesday, Dahli to the groomer on Thursday

My Simple Womans Daybook

FOR TODAY

Outside my window . . . it's late afternoon/early evening here. The sun is getting ready to set in the West.

I am thinking . . . It was an absoultely gorgeous day here today.

I am thankful . . . for everything that went right today.

From the learning rooms . . . (if this applies)

In the kitchen . . . is all cleaned up after a dinner of chicken, red skin potatoes & brussel sprouts.

I am wearing . . . jeans, a pink tee and slippers

I am creating . . .

I am going . . . to paint the final coat on the driveway tomorrow

I am wondering . . . why oh why I ever started this driveway project.

I am reading . . . the directions on paint cans.

I am hoping . . . the last coat of paint goes on w/o any problems.

Around the house . . . getting behind inside because I'm working outside.

I am pondering . . .  What things or activities do I need to start saying “no” to?  What is it that’s draining my energy?

One of my favorite things . . . Mondays and My Simple Womans Daybook

A few plans for the rest of the week . . . painting the drive will probably take the next couple days. Thursday is another doctor appointment and on Friday I plan to go to the farm.

Here is picture I am sharing . . .

Fall in Florida

It's official. Fall has arrived in Florida. The leaves have been falling for several weeks now but it's not officially Fall until the temps fall as well.  That's what happened this morning when our temps were in the 50 somethings. Along with my hoodie it was the first time this year for sweatpants and L.L. Bean's ragg sox on the feet for walking Dahli.

To celebrate our official Fall I got out Toni's pumpkin girls.  Just in case I forget, they remind me it's Fall.

My Simple Womans Daybook

FOR TODAY

Outside my window . . . It's a downright dreary day out there. There's no rain or wind but definitely no sun either. We have some changes in the weather coming and none of it sounds good.

I am thinking . . . that I overdid things yesterday.  Bob Noyes pressure washed the driveway and sidewalk on Saturday. Yesterday I did the acid wash and will tape the edges of everything today.

I am thankful . . . that Christopher will come on Friday and paint the entire area for me.  It's wonderful to have sons who are willing to help w/o even being asked to.

From the learning rooms . . . I've learned a lot about how to prepare a concrete driveway for painting.

In the kitchen . . .

 Easy Apple Crisp

Ingredients

1 cup sugar
2 teasp. lemon juice
1/4 cup water
1/2 teasp. cinnamon
5-6 peeled, sliced large apples
3/4 cup flour
1/4 teasp. salt
6 tablesp. unsalted butter (NO substitute)

Directions

Combine 1/2 cup sugar, lemon juice, water and cinnamon in bottom of small baking pan. Slice in apples. Blend remaining 1/2 cup sugar, flour, salt and butter until crumbly. Spread over apples and pat smooth. Bake at 375°F. for 40-50 minutes, until apples are tender and crust is browned.
Thanks to Toni  for the recipe.

I am wearing . . . jean bermudas, a blue Fresh Produce tee and footlets.

I am creating . . .

I am going . . . the Doctor today to have the staples removed and the pacemaker checked.

I am wondering . . . if it's gonna rain today as predicted.

I am reading . . .

I am hoping . . . that I can stay away from Doctor's for a while.

Around the house . . . another load of whites in the washer. Ironing is starting to collect again. Darn!

I am pondering . . .   What is holding me back?  What keeps getting in my way or holding me back?  What clutter can be cleared from my home and life?

One of my favorite things . . . MacIntosh apples

A few plans for the rest of the week . . . Not much planned except for Chris coming on Friday. Can't wait to see what other fun stuff comes my way this week.

Here is picture I am sharing . . .

NHS - Congrats to Kelly

My grandaughter, Kelly, is a senior in High School this year and here she is after being inducted into the National Honor Society.  She's very proud of her acccomplishments and her parents and grandparents are too! Kelly's great-grandmother was Valedictorian of her graduating class so she comes by it natually.

Here's Kelly with her Mom, AnnMarie.
Here's Kelly with her dad, my son Matthew.
Matt & AnnMarie have 4 other kids in their lovely family.  How blessed I am to have such lovely family.

DIY day today!

I took the shutters down on a two of the windows a few weeks ago.  They have been in the shed waiting to be painted.  Finally got 3 of them sprayed and rehung today.  Feeling quite happy with myself and they look much better now.
Before the new paint job.
Getting the new coat of paint.
Painted and re-hung.
3 done 7 more to go.

This evening I'll be ironing and watching 20/20. No driving for a few more days so can you tell I'm getting sorta bored? Hope you have a wonderful w/e. Hugz!

Ouch!

The nurse came at 11 o'clock to draw my blood.  She just had the worst time. After 3 unsuccessful sticks and tons of apologies, she sent me to the Doctor's office for them to draw the blood. Hooray! success at last!

Yesterday's potluck was delicious and cardBingo was tons of fun.  It was a great opportunity to meet and greet all the snowbirds that just returned.  It's so good to see all of them again.

I usually take pictures of our potlucks but . . . when I went to turn on my camera I discovered that the camera's screen was clouded over . Grrrr! I hate to admit it but it's my own fault.  Left it outside on the trash can cover the other day and it rained.  I totally forgot it was out there. What did you expect, Marge?

FOR TODAY: Medical Issues

Outside my window . . . The sun is shining after a whole weekend of rain and wind. So happy to see Miss Sunshine has decided to visit us again and hope she stays for a long while.

I am thankful . . . that the placement of a pacemaker in my chest went well.  I tried sleeping on my left side for short periods of time last night and it was no problem.

From the learning rooms . . . I am reading the instruction booklet that came with the pacemaker and learning tons about the 'do's and don't's' of pacemakers

In the kitchen . . . My sweet friend, Jo brought over a loaf of banana bread yesterday so I'll be having a slice of that for breakfast along with a real egg. The only eggs in the hospital are scrambeled fake eggs.

I am wearing . . . pj's, white hoodie and socks. PLUS a band around my chest to keep me from raising my left arm.

I am going . . . to a potluck at the Community Hall tomorrow evening

I am wondering . . . how long it's gonna take to charge my golf cart. Seems to be taking longer & longer.

I am hoping . . . that the golf cart won't need new batteries.

Around the house . . . the outside electrical outlet and lampost light haven't worked since Bob washed my house last week. I need to call him about that.

I am pondering . . . (continuation from last week)What routines would I like to “fall back” into?  What are some old hobbies I would like to bring back into my life?  What is it that I really miss doing or participating in? Thanks to Barb's Blog for the idea.

One of my favorite things . . . a clam bake.  Sooooooooo yummy!

A few plans for the rest of the week . . . the home health nurse will visit each day to check the pacemaker insertion site, playing hand & foot a few evenings this week, painting the shutters I took down & rehanging them.

Here is picture I am sharing . . . Hopefully this picture will not gross anyone out.  Sorry if it does. Anyway, it's a picture of what the pacemaker looks like and how it's placed.

I'm Back

I was gone a little longer then planned.  The procedure went well but the pain pill the nurse gave me didn't sit well with me and gave me trouble.  Many of the symptoms I had mimicked a heart attack but it wasn't that at all.  It was just my body protesting the ingredients in the pain pill. You can just bet that that pill is going on my 'allergy' list.

All was good this morning so I got to come home today. Soooooooooooo glad! My new little friend that's buried just   under the skin on my chest is working just beautifully.  Hope it's happy to have me as it's new friend and keeps working for many years to come.

The Good Die Young

Feeling so sad over the loss of Steve Jobs.  The man was a genius and he changed my world.  My first computer was a Mac and I just treasured it.  It was one of the most important purchases of my adult business life.  I owned a small company called Medication Consultants in the early 90's and the Mac changed almost all of the company's operations.  Upgrading from word processors to computers was a giant leap that made our work world a whole lot easier.

The guys at the farm called early this morning inviting me to come for a Clam Bake they were having today.  I couldn't resist the invitation so after Dahli's appointment at the groomer we started out for Clermont.  Just a few short miles into our trip my heart decided to race a little and I had an episode of afib.  My left leg once again got the pins and needles so I turned around and came home.

Got to the Doctor Siracuse's office around 1:45 p.m. and she recommends a pacemaker.  I'll be going for that tomorrow morning with a one night stay in the hospital.  Dad will be here in the morning to take me in.  If you think of it, please keep me in prayer. Thanks.

Another Outage Day

This time it was Comcast.  I'm bundled at Comcast so when Comcast goes down my entire life goes down.  NO phone, NO TV and NO internet since yesterday (Monday) at 11 a.m.  The fates must surely be against us because this was a repeat performance of when our power went OFF on Sunday.

Convincing Comcast to come out and service our connections was no easy task.  All 5 of the families on my street that were affected by the outage had to call and report the problem or they would not consider it a true outage.  That meant that the technicians would not come until Thursday.  We couldn't have that so all 5 of us made sure we called.

Thankfully the technicians came around 6 p.m. and got us back up.  I love happy endings but sure did not enjoy losing my connections to the outside world.  Thankful for a cell phone.

Sorry the complaining but I just can't help it.

My Simple Womans Daybook

FOR TODAY

Outside my window . . . Our temps are much cooler but . . . the sun is shining . . . the squirrels are chasing each other . . . the birds are singing . . . and the sky is a cloud free perfect blue color.

I am thankful . . . That my car is out of the body shop and looks just great.

From the learning rooms . . . I just learned . . . that my bank (Sun Trust) will start charging fees for using my debit card.  I'll be looking for a new bank.

In the kitchen . . .
Did a little baking yesterday.  A pineapple upside-down cake.  Shared some pieces with my neighbors.

I am wearing . . . pj's, a blue hoodie and socks with an afghan wrapped around my legs.

I am creating . . . starting a Charles Wysocki puzzle today called: Singing Piemaker's.  This one seems to be celebrating Thanksgiving.  I just love Thanksgiving so I'll love putting this one together.

I am going . . . to be running some errands today.

I am wondering . . . if Bob Noyes will be washing my house down today.  No sign of him yet and it's 8:40 all ready.  Perhaps he's waiting for it to warm up a bit.

I am reading . . . No new novels.  Finished reading the Sunday paper but haven't clipped the coupons yet.

I am hoping . . . that Amanda Knox is set free by the Italian court.  That all my friends that have medical problems right now will be blessed with a speedy and complete recovery.

Around the house . . . The new Florida room needs a quick clean. Hope to get that done this morning.

I am pondering . . . What is it I want right now?  How can I be even more true to myself?  What can I do to surround myself with more beauty?  What do I need to do to feel closer to the Savior? Found this at Barb'sBlog

One of my favorite things . . . Thanksgiving.

A few plans for the rest of the week . . . I need to take my trust paper's to the dealership, get a pile of stuff to the recycle bins, hair appt. on Wednesday, Dahli to the groomer on Thursday followed by a quick trip to the Vet for Dahli's flu shot & a trip to the farm on Friday.  Dick would like to go to the movies to see Dolphin Tale.  We also have a 40% off coupon for dinner at Disney that has to be used by the end of this month.

Power Outage

The power went off at 6:45 this a.m. I figured it would be on shortly but just in case I lit one of my Colonial Home candles and proceeded to get ready for church.  We have water even when the power goes out because the emergency system kicks on for the pump so that makes it nice.  I left for Mass at 7:30 and drove over a downed wire on way out of the Village and thought there's the problem.  Much to my surprise the power was still off when I returned at 9 a.m.  Yikes!

I have always maintained that an enemy did not have to use bombs to cripple us.  All they have to do is turn the power off.  Sounds silly I know but for me it's a truism.  I literally did not know what to do with myself.  NO microwave meant no hot coffee.  NO TV meant no morning programs to watch.  NO computer meant I was cutoff from the world. Yikes! What's a poor senior to do?

I did what any red-blooded senior would do! I laid down and took a nap.  When I woke up the power was back on and my life returned to normal.  Phew!  So proud that I survived another power outage.

P.S. I got my car back yesterday! So happy!

A Cool Spell

Happy month of October!

OMG! What a difference . . . in the weather this morning.  A cool front must've come in over night and it turns out that we have an oatmeal kind of morning. It's only 70 degrees (usually 80+) and it's cloudy and dreary looking.  Not your typical Florida morning that's for sure.  Guess I'll be having oatmeal for breakfast this morning.

I expected to get my car back from the body shop yesterday.  I went to coffee at Joyce's at 3:30 and stayed until 6:05 p.m.  Rushed home with Dahli and left for hand & foot at 6:15. Got home around 8:30 and saw the message light blinking.  There was a message from Alan Jay Ford telling me my car was ready for pick-up and that they will be there until 5:30 p.m.  Keep in mind that I did not get a rental car because of some snafu with the insurance paperwork so even if I was home at 4:30 when they called there's no guarantee that I would have made there in time.

I know I'm confusing you so let me just say that I'll be calling over there today to see if I can still get my car. Please wish me luck.  Can you tell I'm sort of upset? Maybe that bowl of oatmeal will comfort me.  Hope yours is a wonderful w/e. Hugz!
