Home Again . . .

So happy to be home again having learned that you never know what you have until you lose it.  I say that because there's a new presence in my life.  It's called oxygen.  I'll be attached to a oxygen concentrator indoors and to a cannister of oxygen outdoors.  Not a pretty site for sure.  So when I speak of loss I'm referring to a loss of freedom from tubing in my nose attached to some container.  I've agreed to a trial of 3 months of oxygen 24/7 to see if my pulmonary hypertension improves.  My fingers are crossed . . . my toes are crossed . . . & if there was anything else I could think to cross I'd do that too!
Yesterday was Survivor.  I am totally confused about the decision of the tribe to vote Jonas off.  It made no rhyme or reason to me.  One thing is pretty clear and it's that I don't think like the young folks at all and I have no idea what their rationale would be.  Anyone want to explain it to me?

The best thing about today is Survivor.  Had I gotten to go home then that would have been the best part of today but since that didn't happen I have to say that Survivor is.  Going home tomorrow for sure so I'm keeping that thought in mind.

I apologize for the downer entry today. Hope you understand. Thanks!!

My Simple Womans Daybook

FOR TODAY:  I'm in Highlands Regional Medical Center

Outside my window... the sun is shinning, the temps are in a comfortable 60 range, and all I can see out the window is other wings of the hospital.

I am thinking... that at long last I will get treatment for my pulmonary hypertension

I am thankful... that Tim was on duty today and was able to do my cardiac ultrasound.  He's a whiz at performing the test and the only person that was authorized to do the test per Dr. Santos.

In the kitchen... for breakfast they served french toast, grits, Frosted Flakes, milk, coffee and oj. Wondering why it's called french toast?

I am wearing... pajamas and a hospital gown.

I am creating... my SWD for today

I am going... home today, I hope.

I am wondering... if I will get to go home today.

I am reading... everything I can find on pulmonary hypertension online.

I am hoping... to go home today.

I am looking forward to... going home today. Can you tell that I'd really like to go home today.

I am learning ... all I can about pulmonary hypertension

Around the house... my neighbors tell me everything is ok.

I am pondering... if the new treatment will significantly improve my everyday life.

A favorite quote for today... "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again".

One of my favorite things... being able to breathe.

A few plans for the rest of the week: none

Again . . .

I'm cooling my heels in Hightlands Regional Hospital Again.  The Doc started me on a new antibiotic on Thursday and I had an adverse reaction to the stuff.  Instead of helping it made things worse.  I could hardly move any air in or out so I had no choice but to get myself to the ER.

A dose of Solu-Medrol and a breathing treatment really helped things and the Doc was going to discharge me when the breathing took a nosedive again and he decided to admit me.  Darn!!

Feeling better and hope to get out of here tomorrow.  Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks.

Thanks so much to my friend & neighbor, Ginny,  for bringing my computer to the hospital for me. So that's what's happening in my life today.  Hope your day is better than mine. Hugz!

Truer Words Never Spoken

Haven't been around much this week.  My breathing is giving me problems so I haven't done much or gone out much.  So for today I'm going to share with you  a version of:  "Truer Words Never Spoken".  Don't misunderstand. This came to me in a mass emailing but it's so good it makes me wish I had written it.  I think it's just perfect so let me know what you think after you read it. Thanks.

As I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend.

I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.

Whose business is it, if I choose to read, or play, on the computer, until 4 AM, or sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 50, 60 &70's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love, I will.

I will walk the beach, in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves, with abandon, if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set.  They, too, will get old.

I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And, I eventually remember the important things.

Sure, over the years, my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break, when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But, broken hearts are what give us strength, and understanding, and compassion. A heart never broken, is pristine, and sterile, and will never know the joy of being imperfect.

I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.

As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong.

So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day (if I feel like it).

So what do you think?

My Simple Womans Daybook

It's warmer in Cleveland OH right now than it is in Avon Park FL.  Isn't that strange?  I sure think so.
Outside my window...
The grass is green (I sprinkled yesterday), the sky is blue and the sun is shinning.  Another perfect Florida day.
I am thinking...
that instead of being on the computer, I should be getting dressed and starting on some tasks around this house.
I am thankful...
for a good night's sleep.
In the kitchen...
not much going on cause I haven't had breakfast yet.
I am wearing...
pajamas and socks
I am creating...
my daybook entry for today
I am going...
to a NEW doctor today.  My primary doctor closed his practice at the beginning of the year so it's time to get a new primary.
I am wondering...
if I should go to Bingo tonight or should I stay home and watch DWTS from 8 to 10?
I am reading...
who has time for reading?  There's way too much going on.
I am hoping...
to get to Mass at twice during the week.
I am looking forward to...
absolutely everything
I am learning
how to pace myself.  There's so much to do around the house & I'm having a problem with motivation.  I need to accomplish a little bit at a time instead of trying to complete it all at once.  This is the way it goes when you're old. :)
Around the house...
Spring cleaning needs to continue.
The shutters on the North side of the house still need painting.
Potting table needs to be cleaned.
I am pondering...
my good fortune yesterday when I won the planter at the Beautification Committee Fund Raiser.
A favorite quote for today...
"Work when there is work to do.  Rest when you are tired.  One thing done is peace will most likely be better than ten things done in panic . . . I am not a hero if I deny rest:  I am only tired."  Susan McHenry
One of my favorite things...
Winning something which happens very seldom for me. But it happened yesterday afternoon at the Fund Raiser.  I love it!
A few plans for the rest of the week:
a doctor appointment today, hair cut on Wednesday, Dahli to the groomer on Thursday plus all the usual card games during the week.
A peek into my day... Here's the planter I won yesterday. Yippee!

March 17th

Happy St. Patrick's Day.

May the roads rise to meet you,
May the wind be at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rain fall soft upon your fields,
And, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

May you be poor in misfortunes,
and rich in blessings,
May you know nothing but happiness,
from this day forward,
May good luck be your friend,
In whatever you do,
And may trouble be always,
A stranger to you.

May you always have work for your hands to do,
May your pockets hold always a coin or two,
May the sun shine bright on your windowpane,
May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain,
May the hand of a friend always be near you,
And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

If I Didn't Have A Dog...Or Cat......

I could walk barefoot around the yard in safety.

My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and

All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would
be hair-free.

When the doorbell rings, my home wouldn't sound
like a kennel.

When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without
wading through all the fuzzy bodies who beat me there.

I could sit on the couch and my bed any way I wanted,
without having to take into consideration how much
space several fur bodies need to get comfortable.

I would have enough money, and no guilt, to go on
a real vacation.

I would not be on a first-name basis with 6 veterinarians,
as I put their yet unborn grandkids through college.

The most used words in my vocabulary would not be:
"out," "sit," "down", "come," "no," "stay,"
and "leave it ALONE.

My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby gates
and makeshift barriers.

I would not talk 'baby talk'.  'Eat your din din'.  'Yummy
yummy for the tummy'..

My house would not look like a day care center, with toys everywhere.

My pockets would not contain things like poop bags, treats
and an extra leash.

I would no longer have to spell the words B-A-L-L,
W-A-L-K, T-R-E-A-T, O-U-T, G-O, R-I-D-E, S-U-P-P-E-R,
And C-O-O-K-I-E.
I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as

I would not look strangely at people who think having
ONE dog/cat ties them down too much.

I'd look forward to spring and the rainy season instead
of dreading them as 'mud' season.
I would not have to answer the question: 'Why do you
have so many animals?' from people who will never know the joy of  being loved unconditionally by the closest thing to an angel they will ever encounter.

How EMPTY my life would be!!!

Patty/Paddy is born!

BIG NEWS:  A new little baby calf was born last night.

Andy went out to the pasture to rake and there standing at the gate is Momma (#13) and her new little baby.  I was at the farm this morning and had no idea that such a momentous occasion had occured last night.  When I got home there was a message on the answering machine to call the farm.  I had just missed seeing the new arrival so I'm waiting for a picture from Andy.

Since it's almost St. Patrick's Day, her name will be Patty unless of course it's a boy and then his name will be Paddy but I'm really hoping for a little girl this time.  So that's the big news from the farm.

Lunch and a balloon ride with Tony and Claudia yesterday was so fun.  It is not a hot air balloon. I said that part wrong.  It's a helium filled balloon and it goes up in the air on a very thick steel cable.  It's really quite amazing. It looks like this on the ground:
The ascent is very quick and smooth.  We stayed up in the air around 8 minutes which was plenty of time to take pictures and have a good look around.

Here's Claudia's picture looking down at the landing site.
As you can see we are up there pretty high in the sky.
Here's Claudia & Tony and our balloon captain.
Claudia took this one of Dick and I.  Not sure what's going on with that tongue of mine but it seems to be in the wrong place.
So that was our day at Disney's Marketplace.  Glorious weather, good food, fine friends and a balloon ride. So what if it wasn't hot air.  It was still a balloon and it went up, up and not away.  It stayed tied down like it's supposed to.

Hope yours was a fine day too!

More fun than a hospital!!

Today is Lizzie's birthday.  Happy Birthday sweet little girl.
Dick is home from the hospital and feeling better.  No conclusive diagnosis as to what caused the severe dizziness so he is left wondering what that's all about.

Plans for today are lunch at Capt. Jack's in Disney's Marketplace with Tony & Claudia.  Afterwards, we plan to take the hot air balloon ride.  It's short and sweet but should be fun.  I'll post pictures if all goes according to plan and it actually happens.

Another quiet ride up in the sky is a glider plane.  The neighbor in the back of the farm is the Seminole-Lake Gliderport.

The skies above the farm are filled with the roar of the pull plane engines as they drag the gliders up up & away.  The reason for all the activity is the 22nd Annual Seniors Soaring Competition.

Seminole-Lake Gliderport is the home of the Seniors National Championship for over 20 years. This is the first competition of every soaring year and one of the best-known soaring competitions, bringing together over 50 of the most experienced pilots every year.

The 2012 Seniors Championship will be held between the 10th and 17th of March 2012.

Sounds like fun, huh? Hope yours is a fun day too!

My Simple Womans Daybook

FOR TODAY:  I'm at the farm
Outside my window...
We're back to sunshine this morning after a dismal dreary rainy day yesterday.
I am thinking...  that Dick's vertigo is an inner ear problem
I am thankful...  Dick is in the hospital and feeling better this am.  No firm diagnosis yet.
In the kitchen...  Andy's cooking breakfast.  He has bacon frying and it smells absolutely wonderful.  I do bacon in the micro and it never smells this good. Yummy!
I am wearing...  sweat pants and shirt
I am going...  to help Andy get the little bull back in the pasture.  He got out and started chasing the puppies when I took them out this morning. Bad little bull.
I am wondering...  if Dick will be discharged today
I am hoping...  that we can make it to Disney tomorrow with Tony & Claudia
I am looking forward to...  the kids from California & Cleveland coming in June
I am learning ... patience.  Not an easy thing for me.
Around the house...  it must be pretty quiet around our house since Dahli & I are not there
I am pondering...  how the heck the little bull got out.
A favorite quote for today...

"You must first have a lot of patience to learn to have patience".
Stanislaw J. Lec (1909 - 1966), "Unkempt Thoughts"

One of my favorite things...  Auctions. See Saturday's entry.
A few plans for the rest of the week:  stay at the farm until Wednesday, oversight committee on Thursday, cards on Friday & Saturday.
A peek into my day...  Here's a piccie of the little rascal involved in this morning's chase.

Garden Project

The little garden at the top of our street looked pretty sad until Trudy Wood came along and planted some flowers there. Her hubby, Shan suggested the new concrete curbing. Each household on our street contributed $5 and were able to get the new curbing. Shan & Trudy donated the mulch and now the little garden at the top of our street is looking mighty fine.

Thanks to Trudy & Shan Wood and all the folks that live on our street, we now have a garden to be proud of.

Here's Shan watering the plants.  Just call him 'the devoted dad'.

Auction & Time change

Today was our annual auction.  This year for the first time they had "mystery" gifts.  I chose those to bid on.  The first one I got was a tin filled with a Japanese tea set and 6 chickens.  Love them!
The second item I bid on was a tower of gifts! Here's what that one looked like.
Here's what this one contained. 1)glue stick 2)stress ball 3) stain & adhesive remover 4) puppy toy 5) calculator 6) sun glasses 7) tea towel & 8) kitchen towel
Love it!  Every single thing is just delightful.  What a fun time! Can't wait till next year!

Daylight Savings Time arrives tonight. Soooooooooooooooo
Well . . . don't turn them back! not this time . . . turn them ahead. OK? Anyway, hope you get the idea!

Time to also change the batteries in your smoke alarms too!

I'm off to the farm in the morning. Dick is in the hospital again. Severe case of vertigo this time.

Hope yours is a fun day!

Friday, March 9, 2012

The battery pack on my camera needed charging when I went to use it this morning so I'm a wee bit late in posting today.  Here's what the curbing looks like.  Thinking I should have taken a 'before' picture but I didn't.
Another new addition today . . . . a potting table from Mickey.

I mean I have wanted a potting table for next to forever and when she mentioned she was gonna sell hers, I jumped at the chance to get one.  So for just a few dollars I have me a potting table now.  It even fits in my itsy bitsy shed which is even better.  Mickey threw in the bag of potting mix.  How sweet is that?

Tonight is a dinner for all the folks that helped with the Anniversary Dinner.  Tomorrow is our annual auction.  If I get anything good I'll be sharing it here with you.

Hope yours is a happy one. Hugz!

My Garden Curbing . . .

was done today.  I didn't take a picture of them installing it and now I'm upset that I didn't.  It will be sorta hard to describe so I just have to say that it's concrete shaped into a curb in any color you wish.  I picked black and am happy with the way that turned out.  I hope the color doesn't fade because it looks very classic right now.  I'll post a picture tomorrow.

Survivor was pretty crazy yesterday.  The girls won the first challenge and got a tarp for their site.  The guys won the immunity challenge but gave it to the girls so they could go to tribal council and vote Bill out.  It was totally bizarre. I don't know what to think anymore.  I'm not a Colton fan.  It's gonna be hard to continue to watch him control his tribe.

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

As promised, here's a piccie of my new little bunny rabbit from Tony & Claudia.  Isn't she just darling?

I'm having some control issues with Dahli.  She has apparently decided that she likes the new little bunny and that it should be hers.  Every time I check on her, there she is laying next to the bunny seeming to challenge me not to even come close.  I tried taking a piccie of her with the bunny but every time the camera gets close, Dahli leaves. Guess the camera will be my weapon of choice to win this battle. :)

Today is our Hand & Foot Tournament.  The meatballs are warming in the crockpot.  The mini Belgean cream puffs and on a dish with a soft sprinkling of powder sugar on them so I'm ready to go.

Tonight it's cardBingo, Survivor, Income Property and Reven8e.  Like I said: 'my favorite day of the week'.

Hope yours is a fun day too!

A "Special" Day

for me because Tony & Claudia visited today.  They just happen to be 2 of my most favorite people in the whole wide world.
Not only did they bring a darling Easter bunny (picture to follow tomorrow) but they also brought lunch - fried chicken and a salad from Publix.  So special since Publix fried chicken is another favorite of mine.

The goal of their visit was to visit the home that's across the street from me.  It will be available for rent next season and my hope is that they might consider coming out here in the sticks instead of staying in Orlando.  I can dream, can't I?

Tony took a picture of Claudia & I.

and last but not least . . . . Dahli, Claudia and I.  Pretty cute huh?
We had a wonderful visit and I look forward to seeing them again next week and spending some time together at Disney's Animal Kingdom this time, I think.

I'll be spending the evening preparing for tomorrow's Hand & Foot Tournament.  I've got meatballs cooking in the crockpot & I'm defrosting a package of mini Belgian Cream Puffs for our luncheon tomorrow.  Sounds good, no?

I'm off to watch Phantom of the Opera on PBS.  I love that show.  Hope your day was a 'special' as mine.

seems to be the perfect word to describe the Golden Wedding Anniversary Party here in the Village yesterday.  The ladies on the committee transformed our Community Hall into a romantic lovefest for the 6 couples who will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary this year.  And they said: "it wouldn't last".

Here's the stage where each couple took turns sitting on the love seat while their personal story was narrated to the audience.  Each love story was unique and beautiful.

A little story to share here.  Did you notice the black curtain circling the stage?  The committee talked about purchasing black sheets to hang which would have cost over $200.  I remembered seeing black background cloth at the farm where my son, Andy lives.  I asked him about the background cloth and he donated a whole role of Duvateen to make the stage background.  Andy is a stagehand specializing in lighting and sound equipment so he uses drapes all the time.  Wasn't that nice of him?

Here's the cake that my neighbor Doris baked and decorated for the Party.  You did a beautiful job Doris.
The cake is still in the refrigerator when I'm taking this picture but once the party started it took it's place of honor on this table.
Yesterday's Party is the very first 50th Wedding Anniversary Party I've ever attended and I was really impressed.  Personally, I will never be one of those who will reach that milestone in my life but I hope that not a single year goes by where we don't celebrate a 50th Anniversary Party here in the Village.

So that was my Sunday.  What was yours like? Later . . .

Rainy & Windy

It's really blustery out there this morning.  Our absolutely gorgeous weather has taken a nose dive.  The daughters of my friend, Shirley, came yesterday so you can just bet that we'll be blaming them for bringing the bad weather with them.

My daughter, Sue sent me an amaryllis bulb for Christmas and it's blooming right now.  I took a picture of it yesterday to send to her.  So glad I didn't wait until today, huh?

Not much time for playing this morning.  I need to get ready for Mass and grocery shopping afterwards.  Hope the winds don't blow me away. Keeping my fingers crossed.  Until next time . . . God bless.

Door Prize

Yesterday's card party sponsored by the Sebring Garden Club was just delightful.  They awarded door prizes and it seems that everyone walked away with a perfect little giftie.  Just love mine so I'm sharing it here with you.  Isn't it sweet?
They served (yes served our lunches. It wasn't the usual buffet thing) a lunch of 3 small tea sandwiches with a small salad covered with a strawberry and grapes. Plates of cookies followed. Yummy!

My bathroom got the deep clean over the w/e so my target room for today is the kitchen.  I'm working on the 5 windows that ring the table and chairs and make for such a delightful place to eat and watch the world go by.  Sounds funny but it's true.  There's always a car or a golf cart or a service company truck going by on the way to who knows where.  Depending on who it is driving the vehicle, I sometimes try to figure out where they might be going.  Silly huh?

Some kid on the phone tried to scam me today.  It was the weirdest thing.  He kept insisting he was one of my grandsons and needed me to send him money for an accident he'd been in.  Well let me tell you one thing.  He didn't fool this old grandma.  You're not one of MY grandsons and I'll not be giving you a single cent. So there!

So that's whats going on in my life today. Wondering what's going on in yours?

Card Party

Wednesday's are my favorite day of the week and I wasn't disappointed yesterday.

I got home from cardBingo at 8 o'clock just in time for Survivor.  The girls finally got their act together and won some challenges for a change.  The guys voted out Matt. Good move since he really needed an attitude adjustment.

Later this morning, I'll be picking up 3 other ladies and we're off to the Sebring Garden Club Card Party today.   Our tickets include a lunch & door prizes.  Card party's are always lots of fun.

Gotta go! Hope yours is a happy day too! Hugz!
