If I'ts Monday . . .

FOR TODAY: It's My Simple Womens Daybook Day
Outside my window...
The sun is shining  & the it's a little windy at times. Very pleasant combination that makes for a pleasant day.
I am thinking...
that it was nice to have Dad come to visit on Sunday.  We went to the Casino in Brighton but I'll not be saying much about that since I didn't walk away a winner. We went out to breakfast at Denny's this morning and he left for the farm shortly after that.
I am thankful...
for the 2 new little baby calves at the farm.  They were both born to mother's calving for the first time.  Both mother's are doing a fine job with their little ones. So thankful for that.
In the kitchen...
Leftovers of Publix's fried chicken.  Dad stopped on his way yesterday and picked up an 8 pack along with some macaroni salad and Hawaiian rolls.  So yummy that it makes eating leftovers a pleasure.
I am wearing...
Capri styly jeans and a print top.
I am going...(went)
to Jean Elliott's shower for her Grandaughter today.  Your ticket for admission was a favorite recipe to share with the bride. It was tons of fun.  Jean is one of the most creative ladies in the Village.  She not only had games for us to play but also a demonstration of what the typical happy bride, reluctant bride, sexy bride, nervous bride & pregnant bride would look like. In a word . . . hilarious!!
I am wondering...
if Michelle will be able to change my hair appointment on Wednesday. I scheduled it 6 weeks ago before shuffleboard started.  If she can't change it, I'll be missing shuffleboard
I am reading...
"The Cat Who Could Read Backwards" by Lilian Jackson Braun for our book club meeting on Thursday.
I am hoping...
that the pictures and videos that Holly took at the shower today using her Galaxy thing turn out to be great pictures. She said it's everything but a phone. It's a computer, a kindle, & a camera all in one.  Looked for it online but can't find anything that looks like hers and called a Galaxy (I think that's what she called it).
I am looking forward to...
our Mother's Day Tea on May 12th at the Twin Oaks Tea Room
I am learning. . .
to stop wearing my heart on my sleeve.
Around the house...
I finally did a deep clean of my bedroom and ordered my dust ruffle from Dorothy's Ruffled Originals.  A little pricey but I love her stuff and so . . . it goes under the 'gotta have it' category.
I am pondering...
how to handle 2 friends that have really disappointed me. Ouch!
A favorite quote for today...
"Whether drifting through life on a boat or climbing toward old age leading a horse, each day is a journey and the journey itself is home". - Basho
One of my favorite things...
baby animals
A few plans for the rest of the week:
shuffleboard, changing hair appt., cardbingo, book club & blood work on Friday.
A peek into my day...
I don't have any pictures of the bridal shower today but I do have a picture of the new calves so I'll share that with you.  The bigger girl is named "Patty" cause she was born the day before St. Patrick's Day. The smaller one is called "Bunny" cause she was born on Easter Sunday.  I love them being born near or on a holiday.  Makes it so much easier to name them.

Wednesday . . .

My favorite day of the week but then you already know that.  I just got finished visiting everyone and I hope I didn't leave you out.

Yesterday was bunco at the Shriner's Lodge across the street from the Village.  I love to play bunco and so do most of the gals that live here.  I think there were 5 tables of  Lake Bonnet Village ladies yesterday.  For a mere $3.00 you get a delicious lunch and a fun afternoon.  Can't beat it!

However, this morning was shuffleboard.  Don't really want to talk about it too much since my partner, Janie and I lost all 3 games.  The ladies we played against are pros and we are the newbies. It's only reasonable that we lost, right?

One of the ladies brought this wonderful dip to cards the other night. It was so good that I had to get the recipe and share it with you here. It's called:

1 lb. sausage, browned & drained
1 jar diced pimento
1/4 cup diced onion
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup real mayonnaise
black olives for garnish
  Brown and drain sausage
In same pan, mix all remaining
Bake at 350 for 25-30 min.
   (Top should be bubbly)
Serve hot or warm with crackers

Tonight is cardBingo and then Survivor and Reven8e.  That's why Wednesday is my favorite day of the week.  See you at Survivor!

If It's Monday . . .

FOR TODAY:   It's My Simple Womans Daybook Day
Outside my window...   It's dark outside now and the winds have finally stopped.  Our temps have dipped and along with the high winds, jackets were called for today.  That's a really big switch for us this year.

I am thinking... that there's not enough hours in the day to do what I want to do.

I am thankful...  for all the fun activities that we get to enjoy!

In the kitchen... a sink full of dishes that will be washed as soon as I'm done here.

I am wearing...   a pink sweat shirt & navy sweat pants because our temps are a wee bit on the chilly side.

I am creating...  today's SWD entry.

I am going...   to play Bunco at the Shriner's tomorrow.

I am wondering...  if I should purchase a copy of the book club selection or get it from the library.  Any suggestions?

I am reading...

Our book club leader, Mary Jane has chosen the "The Cat Who Could Read Backwards" by Lilian Braun as our first Book Club selection.  "The Cat Who"  series is about Jim Quilleran, a wealthy (unexpected inheritance from an aunt), retired newspaper man and his two Siamese cats Ko-Ko and Yum-Yum. They get into all sorts of misadventures and then finally solve the mysteries/murders/puzzles that always seem to surround them.

I am hoping...  that it's not so windy tomorrow.

I am looking forward to...  all sorts of things especially a Recipe Shower next Monday for Jean Elliot's granddaughter  who is getting married soon.  Jean will not be able to attend her wedding shower due to medical reasons so we're having a recipe shower for her here in the Village. We all know that the way to a man's heart is thru his stomach so we're going to provide this young bride with an arsenal of good recipes that will truly fill her new husbands heart.

I am learning ... to improve my organizational skills.

Around the house... digging in the dirt has come to a sudden stop because so much other fun stuff is going one.  I'll try to get more done tomorrow.

I am pondering...  how to find time for fun stuff and 'to do' list stuff.  If you know the answer, won't you please share it with me?

A favorite quote for today...   "May your days be filled with good things, the kindness of a warm cozy bed, the inspiration of God, the colors of a rainbow, the joy of a wild apple tree, the generosity of the sun, the whimsy of a hummingbird, the wonder of the moon and stars, the fragrance of something baking in the oven, the music of the breeze, and a little quiet time to yourself to contemplate all these things."
From: Jo Mitchell Hall

One of my favorite things... going to the movies.

A few plans for the rest of the week: bunco at the Shriner's, shuffleboard, cardBingo, & playing cards.  I may even get a little more done in the yard.  Here's the before picture of the area I'm working on now.  It should look a whole lot nicer once the new sod goes down.

A peek into my day... Today was our Monthly Movie Day.  We saw "The Lucky One" starring Zac Efron, Blythe Danner, Taylor Schilling, Jay R. Ferguson, Riley Thomas Stewart

It's about a U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault returns from his third tour of duty in Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive-a photograph he found of a woman he doesn't even know. Learning her name is Beth (Taylor Schilling) and where she lives, he shows up at her door, and  . . . you have to go see the movie to find out what happens!!

Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun . . .

A new addition to our . . . Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun . . .  Summer Program.

This was posted by Mary Jane on LBV's Facebook Page yesterday.

Hello Ladies,
Do you love to read? Have you ever joined a book club? Well we are starting a Ladies Book Club right here in LBV.

We are starting with The Cat Who books, a great series about Jim Quilleran, a rich(unexpected inheritance from an aunt) retired newspaper man and his two Siamese cats Ko-Ko and Yum-Yum. They get into all sorts of misadventures and then finally solve the mysteries/murders/puzzles that seem to surround them. The first book is "The Cat Who Could Read Backwards".

Read the first chapter and we will meet on Wednesdays at 11am starting May2 at the West Clubhouse for tea and goodies and a discussion about the story. You can get the book from the library, used book store or on-line at Amazon used books. There is a sign up sheet at the Community Hall in the outside bulletin board near the movie sign up. Please pass the word to those who are not on line. Looking forward to good reading and a lot of fun!

Also in the planning stage is a:
Thanks to Susan Branch for the cute graphic.
There are 2 tea rooms in the Sebring area so Jo and I will be visiting them today to check out which one would be more to our liking. The other option would be to prepare the menu ourselves and hold it in the West Clubhouse.  Decisions . . . decisions . . . decisions.

It's raining . . . finally

Our prayers have been answered and the rain came today.  It started in earnest this afternoon around 2 o'clock .  A few rumbles of thunder that totally shocked Dahli were followed by the liquid gold we've been praying for.  It's what I'm going to call 'perfect timing' since I put sod down yesterday and keeping  it watered can be quite a chore.  Mother Nature is a big help especially since she does a much better job than I do.

A problem: they sold me way more sod than what i actually needed so rather than let it go to waste or give it away I'm going to redo the area by my lamp post that died after I put weed killer on the dollar weed that had decided to infest it.

According to the clerk at Home Depot, the weed killer was just supposed to kill the dollar weed but apparently they forgot to the weed killer that cause it killed everything.  So this weekend, in between the raindrops, I'll be digging up this area and making it pretty again.

Did you know that this is Earth Day Weekend? A wonderful graphic from Susan Branch.

I love Wednesday's

This morning was our 2nd shuffle session.  Rosie was my partner today and we did pretty good.  Won 2 Lost 1.  Not bad for a newbie like me.

I ran up to Home Depot yesterday and got 3 bags of Scott's LawnSoil.  I spread them along the area in the back that will get the new sod.  Hopefully, the little night critters will stay out of it until the sod goes down.  My plan is to run up to Robbins Nursery tomorrow while Dahli is at the groomer's.
Tonight is cardBingo.  Hopefully we will have a decent size crowd.  The snowbirds are leaving in droves.  It's warmer up North so there's no need to stay down here I guess.  Got some bad news yesterday though.  One of our regular players has decided to spend the summer in Ohio this year.  He will be missed.  Hopefully, we won't lose too many more regulars.

Don't forget Survivor is on tonight.  Can't wait to see who the girls vote off tonight
After Survivor, it's the return of
Just in case you haven't already guessed . . . I love Wednesdays.

If It's Monday . . .

FOR TODAY:  It's My Simple Womans Daybook Day
Outside my window...  It's evening time.  Had I posted my entry earlier I would have told you that it was a bright sunny day with temps in the mid-80's.  In a word, a gorgeous Florida day.

I am thinking... the day went way too fast.  I had so much planned for today but only got a little accomplished compared to what was planned.  I'm definitely slowing down.

I am thankful...  that someone had the good sense to start CPR on Jim today when he suffered a heart attack while playing horseshoes.  He's in ICU resting comfortably.

In the kitchen... For dinner this evening it was Chicken Margarita by Healthy Choice.  It was dee-licious.

I am wearing...  jean capri's and a white tee

I am creating...  this entry?  does that count?

I am going...  to skip playing cards this evening.  Feel like I need a break.

I am wondering...  when & if we will ever get some rain.  I'm ready to start doing a rain dance.

I am reading...

I am hoping...  that the kids still plan on coming in June.

I am looking forward to...  getting some sod put down in the back yard area.

I am learning . . .  how to manage this long tubing that I drag with me everywhere I go.

Around the house...  getting some lawn work done.

I am pondering...  how much yard work I will actually be able to do myself and how much I will have to hire out?

A favorite quote for today...
One of my favorite things...  grilled cheese.  It's what I had for lunch today.

A few plans for the rest of the week:  the nursery at Home Depot tomorrow, the groomer on Thursday and and ultrasound on Friday.

A peek into my day...

Bounce This Along

All this time you've just been putting Bounce in the dryer! But it's great for lots more stuff.

1. It will chase ants away when you lay a sheet near them. It also repels mice.

2. Spread sheets around foundation areas, or in trailers, or cars that are sitting and it keeps mice from entering your vehicle.

3. It takes the odor out of books and photo albums that don't get opened too often.

4. It repels mosquitoes. Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season.

5. Eliminate static electricity from your television (or computer) screen.

6. Since Bounce is designed to help eliminate static cling, wipe your television screen with a used sheet of
Bounce to keep dust from resettling.

7. Dissolve soap scum from shower doors. Clean with a sheet of Bounce.

8. To freshen the air in your home - Place an individual sheet of Bounce in a drawer or hang in the closet.

9. Put Bounce sheet in vacuum cleaner.

10. Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through a sheet of Bounce before beginning to sew.

11. Prevent musty suitcases. Place an individual sheet of Bounce inside empty luggage before storing.

12. To freshen the air in your car - Place a sheet of Bounce under the front seat.

13. Clean baked-on foods from a cooking pan. Put a sheet in a pan, fill with water, let sit overnight, and sponge clean. The anti-static agent apparently weakens the bond between the food and the pan.

14. Eliminate odours in wastebaskets. Place a sheet of Bounce at the bottom of the wastebasket.

15. Collect cat hair. Rubbing the area with a sheet of Bounce will magnetically attract all the loose hairs.

16. Eliminate static electricity from Venetian blinds. Wipe the blinds with a sheet of Bounce to prevent dust from resettling.

17. Wipe up sawdust from drilling or sand papering. A used sheet of Bounce will collect sawdust like a tack cloth.

18. Eliminate odours in dirty laundry. Place an individual sheet of Bounce at the bottom of a laundry bag or hamper.

19. Deodorize shoes or sneakers. Place a sheet of Bounce in your shoes or sneakers overnight.

20. Golfers put a Bounce sheet in their back pocket to keep the bees away.

21. Put a Bounce sheet in your sleeping bag and tent before folding and storing them. It will keep them smelling fresh.

22. Wet a Bounce sheet, hose down your car, and wipe love bugs off easily with the wet Bounce.

23. Put a sheet of Bounce in your suitcase when traveling, it will help keep mites or any other critters out of it. While you are at it, travel with several Bounce sheets and run them up and down your bed linen before getting into bed, it will cause all the critters already in your bed to run. Keep a sheet in your suitcase even after you have unpacked to protect your suitcases from bugs nesting in it.

24.  The U.S. Postal service sent out a message to all letter carriers to put a sheet of Bounce in their uniform pockets to keep yellow-jackets away.

25.  Use them all the time when playing baseball and soccer. Use it working outside. It really works. The insects just veer around you.

Summer Shuffle

started this morning at 9 o'clock.  12 ladies showed up to play so we had a good turnout.  Jan & I were new to the game so Hearlene and Susanne taught us the ropes.
Close up is Rita Blitz and Jo Hall. Farther back are Rosie Boyea and Doris Schroeder.

On the other side was (left to right) Sharon Yoder (back to camera), Barb Weisberg, Ginny Pilato, Mickey Shackelton, Susanne Scharff and Jan Mcdonald.

Sorry that I missed Hearlene in a picture.  We had a fun time.  Thanks to Jo Hall and Hearlene for getting us organized.  Are you playing any fun games this summer?

Tonight is cardBingo and then Survivor.  See you there!

Sand Hills

Our resident sand hill cranes have once again come thru for us this year and hatched out two little yellow puff balls.  Every year one of the babies disappears and we all mourn losing one but . . . maybe this year will be different.
They are learning about this grand world we live in.  Everyday, someone checks on them and lets us know if everything is still 'ok'.

Love this latest picture.  They are so tame.  Guess you can tell they are not afraid of people. Hope we can witness the babies grow to adulthood.

My Simple Womans Daybook

FOR TODAY:  It's My Simple Womans Daybook Day
Outside my window... the sunshine is a fooler . . . it looks warm but it's not . . . it's windy & chilly right now.  By this afternoon, it will warm up and be another perfect Florida day.
I am thinking...  that it's getting late and I haven't dressed yet.
I am thankful... all my friends here at Lake Bonnet Village.  Yesterday's Easter dinner was just fantastic.  Good food . . . good friends . . . good day!
In the kitchen...  my fridge & freezer is filled with donations from all my snowbird neighbors who are leaving for all places North for the summer.  Butter, anyone?
I am wearing... same old cool morning sweats
I am creating... my SWD entry for today
I am going... to go get dressed and finish this entry when I return.
I am wondering... if i should play cards tonight.
I am reading...
I am hoping... that having some planned activities this summer will make the snowbirds leaving less traumatic.
I am looking forward to... to summer shuffleboard starting on Wednesday
I am learning... how to play shuffleboard.  I wonder if I'm the only one who doesn't know how to play so that will change on Wednesday.
Around the house... the last 4 house shutters were painted over the w/e and hopefully I'll get those hung today.
I am pondering... if being a member of the 'hose in the nose' gang will become more of a second nature as time passes.
A favorite quote for today... "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes." Marcel Proust
One of my favorite things... jellybeans
A few plans for the rest of the week: No special plans.

Happy Easter Sunday

Good morning and a Happy Easter Sunday to all my blog friends.

My dear sweet Christopher sent me a little bouquet of flowers.  How sweet is that? Thanks so much sonny boy!
Today I'll be celebrating Easter with my family and friends here in the Village instead of making the trip to the farm as I usually do.  We'll all gather at the Community Hall where the tables will be decorated with Easter stuff.  We'll have baked ham and all the trimmings and the Easter bunny will visit and bring lots of juicy jellybeans to share.  It's so fun!!

I'm taking candied sweet potatoes and a fruit compote.  It's a new recipe that I found on Susan Branch's Blog  Here's the recipe for those of you who may want to try it some other time.
Just click on the graphic to print it out.  Resize it and there you go!

Happy Easter Everyone!

Saturday, April 7, 2012

All I need to know I learned from the Easter Bunny!

• Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
• Everyone needs a friend who is all ears.
• There's no such thing as too much candy.
• All work and no play can make you a basket case.
• A cute tail attracts a lot of attention.
• Everyone is entitled to a bad hare day.
• Let happy thoughts multiply like rabbits.
• Some body parts should be floppy.
• Keep your paws off of other people's jelly beans.
• Good things come in small, sugar coated packages.
• The grass is always greener in someone else's basket.

To show your true colors, you have to come out of the shell.
The best things in life are still sweet and gooey.

May the joy of the season fill your heart.

Thanks to my dear sweet friend, Toni, for the Easter card.  Click on the link below to see it.

Thanks to Claudia, Toni & Felix the cat for the another sweet card.

Good Friday

I know . . . I know . . . It's one of the most solemn days on the Church calender but I have this need for a touch of funny so I'll take care of that need and then I'll be a good girl.  OK Here we go!

Gotta have a touch of Maxine.
And some making fun of folks like me.

ALRIGHT, who's the wise guy that sent this to me?
WHOEVER SENT IT, send it to SOMEONE WHO COULD benefit from it, OKAY!

Obviously I am not in need of this many reminders!

Now that I'm a member of the 'hose in the nose' gang and my brain is getting oxygenated to the max well . . .  I remember practically everything! So there . . .

OK now I'm off to be good! Hope your day is good too!

Happy Birthday

to Dahli.  Today is her 11th birthday.  Seems like only yesterday that he was my brand new little puppy.  And now here she is . . . an old lady just like me!  Hehe!

If I knew how to get rid of red eye - I sure would. Can anyone help me out with this little problem?

Last night was Survivor.  Once again, the guys let the gals control the vote & Mike was voted off.  Bad move guys!  You are now outnumbered by the gals and that means you have lost control of the rest of the game.  Too bad but you should have known better. I'm just saying!!

Martha Stewart

The phone rang at about 10:30 yesterday morning.  It was my dear sweet neighbor, Miss Joyce who takes Dahli any time I need help with her care.  Joyce is our resident, St. Francis.  She feeds the birds and the squirrels eat out of her hand.  It's amazing.  And best of all, if you have a puppy you are always welcome at Joyce's house.  This is Joyce.

Anyway . . . . back to the phone call. Joyce asked if I was watching The Hallmark Channel and I said 'no' but quickly grabbed the controller and dialed in 137.  There was the Martha Stewart Show and Martha was introducing a young lady named Noel Solomon.  It was the young lady that married Joyce's grandson, Mike, on the beach in San Diego on September 17, 2011.

Last September Joyce flew to California for the wedding of her grandson, Mike to Noel. Joyce just loved California.  Mike is the son of Joyce's daughter, Sue.  Sue and her hubby rent a house and stay with us here at Lake Bonnet Village for part of the winter each year.  We always look forward to Sue being here.

Martha's show is LIVE so the entire family was in New York City so that Noel could demonstrate on the Martha Stewart Show how to make these paper flowers.  Here's what they look like.
Here's a link to her website called:  Fanciful Designs

Jack Wagner was voted off DWTS yesterday.  He gave it a good try and really wasn't all that bad.  Just didn't get the votes from the watchers. Bye Jack.

Another hot, sunny day here.  More and more snowbirds leave each day.  Kinda sad actually but then it gives me something to look forward to in the Fall.

I'm thinking about calling cardBingo tonight.  I feel like like I can be w/o the oxygen for a couple hours.  I won't know unless I give it a try.  Marilyn will be there to take over if need be & that's good thing.

Happy day everyone!

My Simple Womans Daybook

FOR TODAY:  If it's Monday it's My Simple Womans Daybook Day.

Outside my window...  It's mid-afternoon, the sun is shinning really bright out there.  This morning we were in a fog & it was even a slight chilly.  We wondered if the sky would clear & if it would warm up.  Yep! It sure did!

I am thinking...  I should be getting some ironing done today.  I had planned on doing it yesterday evening but . . . .

I am thankful...  my left ear is finally cleared and feeling so much better.  In the midst of all the other problems, I probably forgot to mention my left ear was clogged with wax and I've had a hassle of a time getting it cleared out.  Feels much better now!

In the kitchen... Doris brought over a big container of rice pudding and along with some chunks of cantaloupe, I had a yummy lunch today.

I am wearing...  capri's and the yellow butterfly tee that I found at Cracker Barrel.

I am creating...   my SWD entry for this week

I am going...   to skip Bingo tonight.  Something tells me I should cool it right now so I'll follow my gut feelings even though others will be nagging me to go.

I am wondering...  if I will be approved for the portable oxygen device that I can use outdoors

I am reading...

I am hoping...  the week goes fast and that Easter Sunday will be here before we know it

I am looking forward to...  Easter Sunday dinner at the farm (if I feel I can tolerate the drive) or just staying here and having dinner with all my friends and neighbors.

I am learning ...   to live with the hose in my nose and make the best of it.  It's really not the end of the world after all unless I choose to treat it that way! So I'm choosing to be happy! If it helps; I'm happy.
Around the house...   things are getting back to normal & I'm very happy about that.  Laundry is done, everything is in it's place, the flowers are watered and looking happy & my dear sweet Dahli is sleeping on the couch like she doesn't have a care in the world.

I am pondering...  if I will ever learn the art of listening.

A favorite quote for today... "Live loud enough in your heart & there is no need to speak". Mark Nepo

One (some) of my favorite things... Easter Sunday, Easter bunnies, Easter bonnets, Easter dinner, Easter chicks, Easter flowers . . .

A few plans for the rest of the week:  mostly I'll be thinking about all the Holy Week activities.  Thursday is the Mass celebrating the Last Supper, Good Friday will be Stations of the Cross & our Lord's suffering on the Cross, Saturday will be the blessing of Easter food and Sunday will be Easter Mass and dinner.  There will be much sadness followed by much joy.

A peek into my day...

Happy April

This is the April calendar page from my Susan Branch calendar.  Seemed like the perfect picture for Spring.

Happy April and Happy Sunday.

As most of you already know, I am now a member of the 'hose in the nose' gang.  If it's funny then it's not sad and happy is so much better than sad so I choose happy.  I think I am adapting quite nicely to this new reality of mine, thank you.  It is what it is and it's not going to get me down. Yeah!

Things are actually get back to normal around here. Yesterday was a pretty good day. I put fresh linens on the bed, washed a couple loads of laundry, walked Dalhi up at the dog walk & even did my nails.  It's so good to feel normal again. This evening I plan to do some ironing.  Pretty good, wouldn't you say?

Hope you're having a pretty good day too!
