You know you're a Floridian if....

You know socks are only for bowling.

You never use an umbrella because the rain will be over in five minutes.

A good parking place has nothing to do with distance from the store but everything to do with shade.

Your winter coat is made of denim.

You can tell the difference between fire ant bites and mosquito bites

Some[many] of your friends are over 65.

Anything under 70 degrees is chilly.

You've driven through Yeehaw Junction.

You know that no other grocery store can compare to Publix.

You dread love bug season.

You are on a first name basis with the Hurricane list.. They aren't Hurricane Charley or Hurricane Frances . You know them as Andrew, Charley , Frances , Ivan, Jeanne & Wilma...Irene...Cheryl...Rita Mary..Alison

You know that anything under a Category 3 just isn't worth waking up for.

You know what a snowbird is and when they'll leave.

You think a six-foot alligator is actually pretty average.

'Down South' means Key West

Flip-flops are everyday wear. Shoes are for business meetings and church but you HAVE worn flip flops to church before.

You have a drawer full of bathing suits, and one sweatshirt.

You get annoyed at the tourists who feed seagulls.

A mountain is any hill 100 feet above sea level.

You know the four seasons really are: Hurricane season , love bug season, tourist season and summer.

You've hosted a hurricane party .

You can pronounce Okeechobee, Kissimmee , Withlacoochee , Thonotosassa and Micanopy.

You understand why it's better to have a friend with a boat, than have a boat yourself.

You were 25 when you first met someone who couldn't swim.

You've worn shorts and used the A/C on Christmas and New Years.

You recognize Miami-Dade as ' Northern Cuba '

You not only forward this but you blog it

It is . . .

MEMORIAL DAY

It is the
VETERAN,
not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the
VETERAN who
salutes the Flag,

It is
the

Dinner Adventure . . .

A short time before we planned on leaving for dinner at Disney, a news flash came across the TV screen announcing that Interstate 4 was closed East Bound because of thick smoke from a nearby brush fire.  I-4 is the main artery going thru Orlando and it's close to all the attractions including Disney.

Instead of leaving for dinner at 4:30 p.m. as planned we left at 4.  When we got onto Disney's World Drive, we were greeted by the traffic that was detoured off  the Interstate.  I was ready to just get in line and wait my turn but Andy was having none of that.  He instructed me to pass all the cars in line and go as far to the front as possible.  When I got to the beginning of the line, there was this little patch of grass between me and freedom.  I could see that others had driven on the grass so guess what?  I did likewise just like a hot rod driver.  I can't believe I just did that!

Neither could the guys.  I love happy endings and ours was exactly that.  I'm not recommending that anyone break any traffic laws and fully admit that had the police caught me I would probably have been ticketed but . . . . . under the circumstances it was exactly the right thing to do.  My opinion.

Oh by the way, dinner was wonderful.  The clams, muscles and crab legs were dee-licious.  In fact, everything on the buffet was great. The bad part is that I ate way too much. Why do I do that?  I dunno but it was a special time for me with the guys and I loved every minute.

Shopping

Yep! the Fedex guy finally came.  I had to sign for the printer ink refill from Dell.  I've gotten the same refill dozens of times before and never had to sign.  Go figure!

Today was a busy shopping and getting ready for our Memorial Day cookout on Monday the 28th.  I volunteered to chair this year's celebration and so far it's not all that bad a job but it really helps if lots of ladies volunteer.  I ran to Wal Mart and got the hot dogs and burgers and buns today.  With that done I'll finish up the decorating on Sunday.

I'm on my way to the farm again tomorrow.  We're going to the Yacht & Beach Club for their clambake dinner.  Matthew's treat.  Can't wait.  Andy is planning a steak & potato bake on Saturday and I'm bringing  the salad fixings.  Now that I think about it - I guess you could say we'll be doing a lot of chowing down this w/e. Maybe I'll gain some weight, huh?

It's a totally beautiful day today.  The temps are in the low 90's but it's pleasently breezy instead of being hot and muggy.  The sky was so clear and so blue that I just had to take a picture of it.
In a word; beautiful!

Hump Day!

Everyone at shuffleboard this morning was upset over Katherine not winning DWTS.  I was speechless. Couldn't believe it! I almost couldn't sleep last night! but I knew I had shuffleboard this morning so I forced myself to sleep. She is not only a beautiful young lady, an expert dancer and mild spoken woman but also a kind spirited gentle person. She was a delight to watch on the dance floor and glorious to listen to and I'm not even her grandmother.  That makes my comment an unbiased one.  Wishing her all the best in the future.

Guess what?  I won 2 out of 3 games for the first time ever.  Do you suppose that maybe I'm getting better at this game? I sure hope so!

I got a phone call yesterday that FedeX would be delivering a package today and that I had to be home to sign for it.  What???? Do you really expect me to sit around the house waiting for a delivery when you know very well that I am very busy and can't waste time sitting around here?  What in the heck can be so important that it requires a signature?  I ordered 2 things online that haven't been delivered yet. One is something called  chicken serum and a Dell printer cartridge. It's gotta be one of them.

I'm off to have some lunch. Hope you're having a wonderful 'hump' day.

*Congressional Reform Act of 2012*

Today is Bunco at the Shriner's Lodge.  I'm taking Stouffer's Cheesy Chicken & Broccoli bake.  First we have lunch and then we play.  So fun!

Warren Buffet, a man whom we all admire, endorses the following message so I'm sharing it here because I think it's really important.

1. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.

2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 1/1/13. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women.

Congressmen/women made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Don't you think it's time?

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!

I've Learned . . .

I've Learned:
That life is like a roll of toilet
Paper. The Closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

I've Learned:
That we should be glad
God doesn't give us everything we ask for.

I've Learned:
That money doesn't buy class.

I've Learned:
That it's those small daily happenings that make life so Spectacular.

I've Learned:
That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.

I've Learned:
That the Lord didn't do it all in one Day.
What Makes me think I can?

I've Learned:
That to ignore the facts does not change the Facts.

I've Learned:
That the less time I have to work, the more things I get Done.

Hope you learned something after reading this. Hugz!

Our new book . . .

Today was our Book Club Meeting.  Before the meeting, I ran Dahli over to the groomer's.  I had permission to be late picking her up so that I could attend our Book Club meeting.

"The Cat Who Could Read Backwards" will not go down as an overall favorite of the group.  In fact, practically no one really cared for it except for Mary Jane.  The rest of us felt is was overcrowded with characters and that the ending was a disappointment.  We'll not be reading any more selections in "The Cat Who" series.
Our next selection is from Nora Roberts writing under her J. D. Robb name.  It's called "Memory in Death" and is from Robb's "Memory In" series.  Hopefully, this one will hit a home run with our group.

We already talked about the next book to read when we finish this one.  It's going to be one of Nicholas Sparks' novels.  He's a favorite of several of us in the group.

I was a half hour late picking Dahli up from the groomer but Christina was very understanding and Dahli looks just beautiful so it was a happy ending.

Wednesday

Shuffleboard was good this morning.  My partner and I finally won a game. Alleluia!

This evening is cardBingo but there will be no Survivor to look forward to. It all ended on Sunday.  I sure will miss Survivor until it returns again in the Fall.

In the meantime, did you know that it's National Friendship Week?  This is from an email that came from Marilyn yesterday.  Seems like the perfect thing to share with you today.

How To Get Through  Life Without Losing It

Sleep as much as you can  ....

Read books that you enjoy...

 Play with simple things...

Do whatever you want --  Whenever you want...

Look for affection when you need it...

Get serious once in a while...

 Forget about diets...

 Show some affection...

Get angry once in a while....

 Change your looks...

Above all, be happy,  Regardless of what
 Your challenges may be...

Have a great life!

 May your troubles be less,
 Your blessings more,
 And may nothing but happiness
 Come through your door.

I'm Back . . .

I'm home again . . . all unpacked and everything is put away . . . so now I have some time to play. :)

It was fun being at the farm for a few days with all the boys there. It's been a while since we saw Matt so his visit was a really sweet surprise. Matt will leave the farm tomorrow.  He's headed for the Cape Coral area to stay with his friend Tom.  They have hired a charter boat to take them deep sea fishing out in the Gulf.  Matt promises he will take lots of pictures. Hope he remembers.

I'll meet up with him again on Friday of next week (the 25th) at the farm.  Dick is taking all of us to dinner at Cape May in Disney's Yacht & Beach Club.  They specialize in all-you-can-eat clambakes and crab legs.  It's a little on the pricey  side($50/ person) but Dick gets 40% off because he's a Disney retiree. Nice!! You gotta have something fun to look forward to.

Here's the latest picture of the new little baby calves.  They weren't sure what to think of me and Dahli.  Mine was a voice they hadn't heard so you could just tell how curious they were. Too cute! I love watching them run & play. Sometimes, I really miss living on the farm but then I come to my senses and admit it wasn't all that much fun after all.

If It's Monday . . .

FOR TODAY: It's My Simple Womans Daybook Day
Outside my window...
Everything is bright green outside because it just finished pouring down some much needed rain.
I am thinking...
that Andy should be coming home from work soon.
I am thankful...
that Matthew & Christopher were here for Mother's Day dinner.  Andy was called into work so he missed our dinner at Red Wing Restaurant.  Our appetizer was cajon fried alligator tail
followed by a garden salad, an 8 ounce prime rib, garlic mashed potatoes and spring vegetables. Everything was delicious.
In the kitchen...
there's pork chops and chicken breasts in the oven
I am wearing...
navy blue capri's and a white tee top
I am going...
home in the morning
I am wondering...
what great adventures this week holds
I am reading...
"The Cat Who Could Read Backwards" by Lilian Jackson Braun
I am hoping...
that Matthew has a great time fishing down in the Fort Meyers area.
I am looking forward to...
seeing Matthew again at the end of next week. We're planning a dinner at Disney's Cape May before Matt leaves for home and a return to reality.
I am learning
a whole lot about salt water fishing from Matthew.
Around the house...
I scrubbed down my potting table before I left for the w/e at the farm.  It  needs a coat of waterproofing or a paint job.
I am pondering...
how much happiness can one person stand?
A favorite quote for today...
"Rejoice with your family in the beautiful land of life" ~ Albert Einstein
One of my favorite things...
is a tea party.  Our Mother's Day Tea Party was a great success.  Great food + great conversation = a fun time.  If you didn't have fun it was your own fault.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
a trip home tomorrow, blood work on Wednesday, book club & Dahli to the groomer on Thursday.  Looking to a quiet day on Friday.
A peek into my day... a lovely place for a Tea Party

Happy Mother's Day

It was true! Matthew is here and he came in his new Silverado.
Unfortunately, it's love bug season so here is Andy & Matt cleaning all the love bugs off the front of the new truck.
Have a lovely day, ladies!

R-e-a-l-l-y?

Dick called yesterday to let me know that Matthew will be coming down from Cleveland to take me to dinner on Mother's Day.  Really?  Surely there must be some other reason for his visit.  No?  He's really coming down just to celebrate Mother's Day? Really?  A-l-l  r-i-g-h-t!   Can hardly believe that 3 of my sons will be here this Mother's Day.  It surely will be a very special day for me. Thank you Lord.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!
I've got a few more things to do to get ready for our Mother's Day Tea tomorrow.  There are 22 of us going and most of us are ordering the chicken salad served on puff pastry.  It comes with a gelatin salad, cheesy potatoes and a muffin.  Sounds good, huh?  I'll be taking lots of pictures to share with you and our LBV followers on Facebook.

I'll be leaving for the farm tomorrow after our Mother's Day tea but the laptop will go with me so I'll be in touch over the w/e.  Hope your Mother's Day Weekend will be a Happy one.

Spring Cleaning

The Cleaning Poem

I asked the Lord to tell me
Why my house is such a mess.
He asked if I'd been 'computering',
And I had to answer 'yes.'

He told me to get off my fanny,
And tidy up the house.
And so I started cleaning up...
The smudges off my mouse.

I wiped and shined the topside.
That really did the trick...
I was just admiring my good work.
I didn't mean to 'click.'

But click, I did, and oops - I found
A real absorbing site
That I got SO way into it...
I was into it all night.

Nothing's changed except my mouse.
It's very, very shiny.
I guess my house will stay a mess...
While I sit here on my hiney.

Thank you for being my online buddy and friend!

If It's Monday . . .

FOR TODAY:  It's My Simple Womans Daybook Day
Outside my window...
It's late afternoon & the sun is shining and the temps are in the high 80's.  The shade from the big Sycamore tree is just beginning to shade the back and side of the house making things much more comfortable out there.
I am thinking...
that I need to get finished with this entry and get Dahli up to the dog walk.
I am thankful...
for our gorgeous weather, for every small joy or smile today, for a puppy who is a joy, for a family that loves me and for the wisdom to love myself.
In the kitchen...
I woke up from my afternoon nap and had a piece of warm cherry berry pie with a scoop of ice cream on top. It was delicious.
I am wearing...
tan shorts & a kelly green tee
I am creating...
some handouts for the Mothers Day Tea on Saturday.
I am going...
the doctor tomorrow.  I bumped my leg on the edge of the golf cart and the skin tore.  It's not healing all that well so it needs to be seen.
I am wondering...
who will be voted off DWTS this week?
I am reading...
same as last week.  It's a book called "The Cat Who Could Read Backwards" by Lilian Jackson Braun.
I am hoping...
that Mary Jane will be able to lead our group in the Book Club on the 17th.  Ginny is prepared to lead us if Mary Jane cancels again. You gotta be prepared. Right?
I am looking forward to...
Saturday.
I am learning

Around the house...
Gloria brought over some frames for flower boxes.  I'm thinking I'll use them on the porch railings.
I am pondering...
How much more trouble this leg wound is gonna give me.
A favorite quote for today...

"Women are Angels.
And when someone breaks our wings,
we simply continue to fly...usually on a broomstick.
We are flexible like that." Anonymous

One of my favorite things.
are Charles Wysocki puzzles.  I won one on ebay last night that I have been looking for for over a year.  Can you even begin to imagine how happy I am?
A few plans for the rest of the week:
the doctor tomorrow, shuffleboard and cardBingo on Wednesday,  and the bug lady comes on Thursday.  Friday is a question mark (?) and Saturday is the Mothers Day Tea. Can't hardly wait!

The Flower Moon

Tonight's Full Moon is called the Flower Moon.  Make sure you get out there and take a peak at it and don't forget to make a wish while you're at it. It's also called a Super Moon
Today is Cinco de Mayo.  Do you have a special celebration on this day? If you're not familiar with the holiday then click HERE to find out what it means.
It was a busy day for me.  I washed my car for the very first time since I purchased it in September.  Terrible I know but the beige color doesn't show the dirt so it never really looked that bad (to me).  It's a lot of work and I'm glad it's done and looking pretty good.

We have 20 ladies signed up for the Mother's Day Tea next Saturday.  A much better turnout then we expected and thrilled at the response.  Hope it's a truly special day for all Mother's.

Wonderful Wednesday

I know it's Thursday but this entry is going to be about my favorite day of the week.

Today is National Day of Prayer.

We were short one person at shuffleboard yesterday.  Don't know why we were the lucky ones but Jan, Jeanette and I played with 3 and one person had to double back each game.  Not the best way to play but we managed.  Hopefully, we will have a better turnout next week.

Survivor was a hoot last night.  Family members visited and the tears flowed like a river.  Kat won the challenge and picked 2 of the gals that she admires to go on the reward with her.  I'm sure she thought it would help her when they went to council but it didn't.  They voted her "off" and she was shocked and really angry.  Have a feeling she will definitely get back at them.  Kim is one cool gal who calls all the shots and has herself positioned for winning the million.

Our first Book Club meeting scheduled for today was cancelled because Mary Jane had a dental emergency and is scheduled for surgery today.  So disappointed!
The book we are reading is "The Cat Who Could Read Backwards" by Lilian Jackson Braun.  The book started out pretty dull but each chapter gets more interesting so maybe I'll turn out liking it after all.  I was wondering what the others were thinking but I guess I'll have to wait another couple of weeks to find out the answer.

Laundry is all done so today I'll be getting some ironing done.  Hopefully, I'll get some digging done in the yard too and finally lay some sod.  It's taking way longer than I thought it would to prepare the area around the lamp post.  The sod I layed along the side of the house has probably rooted and will be next to impossible to move.  Will let you know how that goes.
