So happy . . .

that Florida weather has returned to normal.  The hot temps across the nation are not so normal and it makes me chuckle when I see that you all are warmer (except for the West Coast) than I am. Keep cool!

Shuffleboard was cancelled yesterday cause the courts were too wet.  CardBingo went on as planned and that was fun! I finally won for a change.

They are talking about more weather activity in the tropics so we'll have to wait and see if we need to worry about that one.  For now, I'll be enjoying our sunshine and warm temps. Here's what we're looking like today.
See nice and clear! Just beautiful!

Debby & Doctor Day

My bunco day turned out to be a Doctor day instead.  My breathing was so impaired this morning that when I called the Doctor's office they had me come right in.  A breathing treatment and a shot of Kenalog in the office and then a good long wait at CVS for my scripts.  Got home around noon and that was way to late for bunco.  So much for my Tuesday plans.

Latest weather report for Avon Park FL.
Rain bands continue throughout the day with high sustained winds.
Tropical Storm Debby has made landfall in Florida near Steinhatchee. Debby will continue to weaken as it moves across the state over the next 24 to 48 hours.

Praying for some sunshine.

If It's Monday . . .

FOR TODAY:  It's My Simple Womans Daybook Day
Outside my window...
It's starting to get dark outside.  The wind is blowing very hard again and that usually means the the rain will not be far behind.
I am thinking...
That I will be very happy when Tropical Storm Debby moves out of the Gulf and we get some sunshine back.
I am thankful...
that our area of Florida has not suffered from any tornado damages YET!
In the kitchen...
An early dinner today . . . bow tie pasta with pesto and mixed veggies. Applesauce on the side. Yummy!
I am wearing...
Navy blue print capri's with a navy blue top.
I am going...
to Bunco at the Shriner's tomorrow even if it's pouring & blowing outside.
I am wondering...
how much longer T.S. Debby will hang around?
I am reading...
"Love in a Nutshell" by Janet Evanovich & Dorien Kelly
I am hoping...
that the dust ruffle I returned to Dorothy's Ruffled Originals comes soon.
I am looking forward to...
the return of sunshine and warm days.
Around the house...
I had planned on getting some stuff done outside but the rain & stormy weather changed those plans
A favorite quote for today...
"As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world:  that is the myth of the atomic age:  as in being able to remake ourselves" Gandhi
One of my favorite things...
going to the beach
A few plans for the rest of the week:
bunco tomorrow, shuffle on Wednesday if it isn't cancelled, cardBingo on Wednesday evening. That's about it!
A peek into my day...
Kate Appleton needs a job. Her husband has left her, she’s been fired from her position as a magazine editor, and the only place she wants to go is to her parents’ summer house, The Nutshell, in Keene’s Harbor, Michigan. Kate’s plan is to turn The Nutshell into a Bed and Breakfast. Problem is, she needs cash, and the only job she can land is less than savory.

Debby . . .

TODAY:

The  good news is:  Debby is getting weaker. The bad news is:  she moved . . . closer to us!

Debby

It's been raining since about 1 a.m. last night.  We do have some short periods of 'no rain' though. It's just enough for Dahli to run outside, take care of business and run back in. Here's the latest weather report for us.
A tropical storm warning for Alabama's Gulf Coast to the Florida Panhandle has been issued ahead of a strengthening Tropical Storm Debby.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Debby was located about 170 miles southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River at 8 a.m. EDT Sunday. It said the tropical storm warning has now been issued from the Mississippi-Alabama border eastward to the Florida Panhandle's Ochlockonee River.
The Miami forecasters add that Debby's top sustained winds have risen in recent hours from 50 mph to about 60 mph. The storm was moving north at 2 mph.
Although a forecast track was still uncertain, the hurricane center said people from Texas to Florida should remain alert to Debby's movements. Source: CBS News
Here's what it looks like today where I am.

Little Theatre

Tomorrow, Doris and I are going to Highlands Little Theatre to see a play called:

How The Other Half Loves
If it's laughter you're after, award-winning playwright Alan Ayckbourn has an imaginative genius for devising extraordinarily surprising and comic situations. Misinformed mischievous gossip inevitably leads to a matrimonial mix-up. The ensuing action leads to a string of misunderstandings and almost farcical events with hilarious consequences.

Sounds good but I'll let you know what I think about it tomorrow.

We have a wee bit of a weather system out in the Gulf of Mexico that may cause a problem here in Florida.  The computer models have it going every which way so there's no definite forecast just yet.

I am where the black arrow is pointing. If you look close, I hope you can see it.  Right now, it's a soft rain but later this evening some of the red and yellow areas will reach us and we'll get a downpour.  Hopefully, this storm that they may call Debby will behave herself and not develop into something I'm gonna have to worry about.

Hope your w/e weather is better than mine. Later . . .

If It's Monday . . .

FOR TODAY:  It's My Simple Womans Daybook Day
Outside my window...
It was a hot (90's) day here. The sun is still shining but soon it will be dusk.
I am thinking...
the day went too fast today.
I am thankful...
that Dad's surgery went well today.
In the kitchen...
Andy made a stirfry for dinner this evening!
I am wearing...
black pants, black & white striped top, tennies
I am creating...
a scrapbook of our summer of 2012 activities at the Village
I am going...
home tomorrow
I am wondering...
if Dad will be able to apply the ointment into his eye twice a day.
I am reading...
I finished "The Woman Next Door" and started "The Best of Me" by Nicholas Sparks.
I am hoping...
to get some stuff on my 'to do' list done this week starting with cleaning the garden shed on Thursday.
I am looking forward to...
going to Highlands Little Theater next Sunday
I am learning
Around the house...
All is quiet.  Andy's in his room fast alseep. The puppies are both sleeping and Dad and I are watching "America's Got Talent".
I am pondering...
A favorite quote for today...

"No one can drive you crazy unless you give them the keys"  - Unknown

 One of my favorite things...
is relaxing with a good book.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
go home tomorrow, shuffle and card bingo on Wednesday, cleaning the shed on Thursday, rest on Friday.

The Amazing Human Body

It takes your food seven seconds to get from your mouth to your stomach.

One human hair can support 6.6 pounds.

The average man's penis is two times the length of his thumb.

Human thighbones are stronger than concrete.

A woman's heart beats faster than a man's.

There are about one trillion bacteria on each of your feet.

Women blink twice as often as men.

The average person's skin weighs twice as much as the brain.

Your body uses 300 muscles to balance itself when you are standing still.

If saliva cannot dissolve something, you cannot taste it.

Women will be finished reading this by now.

Men are still busy checking their thumbs.

If It's Monday . . .

FOR TODAY:  It's Simple Womans Daybook Day.
Outside my window...
The sun is shining.  It's looking like another beautiful Florida day.
I am thinking...
that I'm gonna want to go to the pool today.
I am thankful...
that I have "choices".  No 'gotta-do's" for me.  It's one of perks of 'old-age'.
In the kitchen...
All clean.  Finished up in there on Saturday.  Cupboards washed and in pristine shape for now at least.
I am wearing...
pajamas.
I am creating...
a well organized household that should stay that way for a little while.
I am going...
to get dressed as soon as I finish this entry.
I am wondering...
when the dust ruffle for my bed is coming.
I am reading...
"The Wedding" by Nicholas Sparks. In a word, boring!
I am hoping...
that all the Father's of the world have a wonderful day on Sunday.
I am looking forward to...
Father's Day on Sunday.  I'll go to the farm on Saturday and we'll take Dad out to dinner on Sunday.
I am learning
life's joys outnumber life's sadness
Around the house...
Once cleaning inside is done, I'll start on my outside projects.
I am pondering...
If my friendships will survive the latest bump in the road.
A favorite quote for today...
"Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is to not stop questioning". - Albert Einstein
One of my favorite things...
is watching the Sand Hill Crane babies grow.  One of them injured it's leg and is now limping.  When I saw it yesterday, he/she is now by itself limping along.  Not a good sign.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
A good clean of the great room today,  Dahli to the groomer and grocery shopping on Tuesday, shuffle and card bingo on Wednesday, book club meets on Thursday and Doctor appointment on Friday.  Pretty routine.
A peek into my day...
Here is the Sand Hill family while they were together.  This is not the best picture so
I put a small black arrow by the leg that's injured.  The leg is bent instead of straight.

2013

I've been a long time fan of Susan Branch.  I love her blog and I love her stuff.  I'd buy everything she has if I could afford it but I can't & so I don't.  But . . .on her blog yesterday she announced  that her 2013 calendar was ready and in the store.  I dashed over and saw that the shipping charges were almost as much as the calendar itself.  The same thing happened last year so I didn't buy it but . . . this year I just couldn't resist. Me bad!  I'm thinking that it could be my Mother's Day gift to myself.  That would be ok, don't you think?
She's over in England with her hubby right now and is probably spending way more money than she should so in my own small way I'm offsetting her vacation expenses.  She would be grateful if she knew so that makes me feel good. Happy w/e everbody!

Rain . . . rain

go away. Come again some other day!

That's what I've been saying all morning but it's not working.  So I'm just gonna ignore whats going on out there and clean this house.  But first, I took Toni's suggestion and took these 2 quizzes. To tell you the truth, the answers always totally surprise me.  I always think they are wrong but maybe that's because I don't know myself very well? Yah think?

OK here we go.

How Are You Feeling?  You are Confident.
You always fight for fairness. You have a strong sense of justice.
You trust yourself to know what's right and what's wrong. You are willing to go against the tide.

You automatically take charge when chaos or confusion arise. You know you make a good leader.
You are self-confident and sure of what you're doing. You don't second guess yourself.

What Kind Of Book Are You?  You are Realistic Fiction.
You are an outgoing person and very interested in others. You have many relationships that are important to you.  You are always willing to lend an ear to a friend with a problem. And you're even pretty good at giving advice!

Some may accuse you of loving drama, but you just seem to find yourself in the middle of it.
You are a true people person. You find the lives of others to be fascinating. You're up for hearing anyone's life story.

Guess what? The rain stopped and it's actually looking a little brighter out there. Can you hear me cheering?

One of the local grocery stores is having a dollar sale so I'll be running up to check that out!  With hurricane season upon us, it's good to stock up on water and canned goods so that's my goal for today.

If It's Monday . . .

FOR TODA Y: It's My Simple Womans Daybook Day.  I've missed 2 Mondays in a row so there's no way I'm missing today!
Outside my window... the sun is shining, the sky is blue and the grass is green. Beautiful day!

I am thinking... that I would love to say 'congratulations' to Queen Elizabeth.

I am thankful... that I'm busy living my life and not sitting around with nothing to do.

In the kitchen... a meatloaf is in the oven.  I'm using a new recipe I found on the Progresso bread crumbs container.  Hope it tastes as good as it smells.

I am wearing... lime colored capri's, a white tee and bare feet.

I am creating... a June calendar for our "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" summer.  It's our communication tool for letting everyone what's planned and where to sign up.

I am going... to put a coat of Thompson's Water Sealer on the potting table I bought from Mickey.  Working with potting flowers has been a real struggle up till now so this new addition solves that problem for me..

I am wondering... if we should try joining Oprah's new book club.  She announced yesterday that her Book Club is restarting.  Cheryl Strayed's Wild, an unforgettable memoir about the author's 1,100-mile hike through the Pacific Crest Trail is the first selection.

I am reading... "Memory in Death" by J.D. Robb.  Really into this book and finding it much better than our last selection.  J.D. Robb's books are really well liked here and that influenced our choice.

I am hoping...  that the little sore on my right leg heals soon.  It's been bothering me for a while now so the Doctor prescribed Bactroban today.  Hope it works!!

I am looking forward to...  getting away for some sort of vacation this summer. Hmmm. Where to go? My bucket list is filled with possibilities and choosing one is really gonna be a problem.

I am learning  ... how to pace myself  It sounds like such a simple thing but it's turning out to be a challenge for me.

Around the house... In need of some serious cleaning but this lady of the house has been having too much fun to think about cleaning her house.

I am pondering... how to please most of the people most of the time & what to do with the ones that I never please?

A favorite quote for today...  "There are only two ways to live your life.  One is as though nothing is a miracle.  The other is as if everything is."  Albert Einstein

One of my favorite things... finding something made in the USA.  I found this jar that I use for cotton balls at WalMart.  Hooray!  Maybe we'll see more items made in the USA someday.

A few plans for the rest of the week:A peek into my day... Last week was way too busy so this week it's going to a minimum of activity.
