If It's Monday . . .

FOR TODAY:  It's My Simple Womans Daybook Day
Outside my window...
I'ts been a cloudy morning but the sun has finally decided to wake up and give us some sunshine.
I am thankful...
that Dick (my ex) is doing ok.  His cardiac defribrillator went off yesterday evening.
The jolt knocked him to floor and put him in the hospital.  The biggest complication is a compound fracture of his little toe which is very painful and a dangerous situation for a diabetic.
In the kitchen...
I baked bread and peeled and sliced cucumbers yesterday. I'll add sour cream to the cukes and have some with my dinner tonight. Yummy!
I am wearing...
shorts, tee shirt and barefoot
I am creating...
still working on creating my Christmas in July list.
I am going...
to change bed linens today and do a good scrub in the bathroom. Yuck!
I am wondering...
if  Dorothy's Ruffled Originals is going to give me a refund for the dust ruffle I ordered but they never delivered. What a disappointment.
I am reading...
I just finished "Safe Harbor" by Nicholas Sparks and am going to start "Handyman" by Linda Nichols.
I am hoping...
that Dick has a speedy and complete recovery.
I am looking forward to...
August 10th.  The movie "Hope Springs" starring Meryl Streep & Tommy Lee Jones OPENS.
Around the house...
I finally finished washing the vinyl windows in the Florida room.  My next project will be painting the shed.  It's plastic so I have to figure out if I need a special paint for plastic. Anybody know?
A favorite quote for today...
"It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else". Irma Bombeck
One of my favorite things... hot weather refreshment
This one is called "Skip & Go Naked" and I found it at Susan Branch
These are really delicious and pink like Double bubble gum.
2/3 c. cold beer
2/3 frozen pink lemonade concentrate
1/4 c. vodka

Fill blender 1/2 way with ice. Pour in beer, lemonade & vodka. Blend well & serve. 'Icy pink perfection' is what Susan calls it.'  Click on the graphic to download the recipe.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
Hand & Foot this evening, CardBingo on Wednesday, hair cut on Thursday & I'll leave for the farm on Friday.

76 and 2012

In between big mouth fulls of cake and ice cream, reading all my birthday cards and opening birthday gifts, I'll be watching the 2012 Summer Olympic games starting today in the UK. I mean how much more exciting can one persons birthday be?
The truth of the matter is that getting old sure sucks!!! If my body was a car, I would be thinking of trading it in for a newer model.
I've got bumps, dents and scratches in places I didn't even know I had. My paint job is getting dull. My headlights are out of focus. My traction is not as graceful as it once was.
It takes me hours to reach maximum speed. But the worst is: every time I sneeze, cough, or sputter either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!!  No kidding, getting old is not for wimps!
Good advice from the only lady who understands me.

Peach Pie

Is there anything better than peach pie in the summertime? No there's not in my opinion.  Every summer, Annie makes this pie for us and when we go to coffee at Joyce's, there's this special treat waiting for us.  Well, yesterday was one of those days. A delicious peach pie.
It was sooooooooooooo good that I practically inhaled it.  Thanks so much, Annie.

Annie agreed that these peaches were THE BEST that we've seen in a long time. I went grocery shopping at WalMart on Sunday and spotted these peaches and all I could think of was Annie and her pies.
If you spot these peaches at your store. BUY THEM. They are the best. Thanks to California for the best peaches ever.

If It's Monday . . .

FOR TODAY:  it's My Simple Womans Daybook Day
Outside my window...
It's a sun/rain kinda day.  What I mean is that one minute the sun is shining and the next minute it's raining. Schizophrenic weather day.
I am thinking...
about my granddaughter, Amanda, on vacation in NYC for the very first time. The farthest East she's ever been is Ohio.  There she is eating sushi, her favorite food in the whole wide world. Have fun, sweetie girl!
I am thankful...
for every itty-bitty blessing I receive.
In the kitchen...
I made Italian sausage with green peppers & onions yesterday and it was dee-lish so I'll be having that again today.
I am wearing...
blue plaid bermudas and a white top.  Barefoot as usual
I am creating...
my Christmas in July gift list.  The last 2 years, I chose William Sonoma breakfast bakery but this year I'm looking for some new ideas like  My Grandma's Coffee Cake  and/or Georgetown Cupcake.  I'm sure I'll find a few more ideas before I actually have to order but it's nice to have some lined up.  If you have any good ones, I'd love to hear from you.
I am going...
to Joyce's for peach pie and coffee this afternoon.  I picked up some gorgeous peaches at WalMart yesterday and Annie took 5 of them to make a pie.  OMG! Her pies are just the best.  I hope I remember to take my camera and to take a pix.
I am reading...
"Heart of the Matter" by Emily Giffin. I have "Handyman" by Linda Nichols and "Safe Hideaway" by Nicholas Sparks on request.
I am looking forward to...
Sunday, August 4th.  Our birthday celebration at Disney's Cape May.  We usually go one day the week between 7/21 and 7/27 but this year Cape May is closed for renovation so our usual celebration will be delayed a few weeks.
I am learning
that every time I think I know something I find out I really don't. Not prepared to offer any examples. Sorry.
Around the house...
the kitchen window awnings are finally washed and sparkly clean and sprayed with Raid so the buggies don't come back. Hooray!!!!!!! Can you hear me cheering?
I am pondering...
The Aurora Massacre.  Why do bad things happen to good people? How many more will die?  When will the NRA realize they need to change?  How do the parents of the shooter feel? It goes on & on . . .
A favorite quote for today... by Godspell
Oh Dear Lord
Three things I pray
To see thee more clearly
Love thee more dearly
Follow thee more nearly

 One of my favorite things...
are looking at pictures of my family.
A peek into my day...
Here's my daughter, Sue with her grandson Caden (my great-grand).  Aren't they just the sweetest?
A few plans for the rest of the week:
A quick clean of the house for today, Bunco at the Shriner's tomorrow, Shuffle and cardBingo on Wednesday and . . . I think that ends the planned stuff.

If It's Monday . . .

FOR TODAY: It's My Simple Womans Daybook Day.
Outside my window...
The sun is shining at the moment but that could change back to cloudy in the next 15 minutes.
I am thankful...
That I'm feeling much better and plan on playing Hand & Foot this evening for the first time in many months. Hope I didn't forget how to play.
In the kitchen...
Made a batch of tuna fish patties yesterday so along with some mashed potatoes and spinach that's what will be on my dinner plate this evening.
I am wearing...
Tan bermudas and a white tee
I am creating...
A list of books I've read this summer along with a small picture of the book cover.
I am reading...
I finished reading "The Witness" by Nora Roberts and "Summer House" by Nancy Thayer.  Right now I'm finishing up "Porch Lights" by Dorothea Benton Frank and can't wait to start "Heart of the Matter" by Emily Giffin.  Great summer reading!
I am hoping...
that some new sod gets planted this week
I am learning
that there are some things that you just cannot do yourself. I've learned that the lawn is one of those things so from now on . . . "Bugs-B-Ware" will be in charge of the lawn.
Around the house...
The kitchen window awnings still need to be washed and the shed could use a paint job.
I am pondering...
a change in my lifestyle.  Every morning around 7:30, Doris, who is 94, walks by my house with her little Chihuahua puppy named Maggie running alongside her.  Every morning, Ann is in the pool doing her morning exercises following knee surgery.  I, on the other hand, didn't wake up until 7 a.m. & am sitting at the computer at 7:30 watching the world go by.  I think it's time for a change.
A favorite quote for today...
"Some people, no matter how old they get, never lose their beauty -- they merely move it from their faces into their hearts." Martin Buxbaum
One of my favorite things...
a good book. Try this one on for size.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
playing cards this evening (hooray! can you hear me cheering?), Shuffle and card Bingo on Wednesday and a B12 shot at the Doc's office on Thursday. Boring . . .

Bugs . . .

It's official! I have cinch bugs again!  the Bugs B Ware man came this morning and comfirmed my suspicion. bummer! I put Bug B Gon MAX down twice and I still get the cinch bugs. It's not fair! It's unAmerican. Why me?  So guess what world? I'm giving up on the DIY stuff and putting the sod in the hands of experts.

I've dug up this part of the yard 2 times already and this will be #3. No more.  I'm done digging up sod and I'm done worrying about the lawn. From now on, Bugs B Ware will come every other month and do what needs to be done and I will hand over $35.00 and thank heaven that I don't have to do it anymore.

The only thing I'm asking myself is: Why didn't I do this sooner?

If It's Monday . . .

FOR TODAY: It's My Simple Womans Daybook Day

Outside my window...
Another gorgeous Florida day.  Hope we get our afternoon shower today.
I am thankful...
that my breathing has improved so much that I was able to get my garden shed cleaned out over the w/e.

In the kitchen...
pork chops in the slow cooker this morning.
I am wearing...
still in my p.j's
I am creating...
A Memorial Page for my friends and neighbors here at LBV. I've gone back to 2005 to retrieve names from the Chatter.  Many issues are missing but with luck, I'm hoping that slowly we'll find the back issues and eventually complete the list.
I am going...
back to Beall's today to spend my $30 free dollars coupon.
I am reading...
"The Witness" by Nora Roberts.  Pretty good.
Around the house...
cleaning the kitchen awnings is next on my 'to-do' list.
A favorite quote for today...  "The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and miss it, but that it is too low and we hit it. – Michelangelo"
 One of my favorite things...
shopping, of course!!
A few plans for the rest of the week:
Dahli to the groomer and me to Dr. Piccione on Tues. Shuffle and card Bingo on Wednesday.  I've gotta get back to playing cards. Maybe that will happen this week.
A peek into my day...
This beautiful "carpet" is created every year in the Grand Palace in Brussels . It's made entirely with fresh flowers - begonias.

What a breathtaking sight! Isn't it wonderful that there is so much beauty in this world and the computer enables all to enjoy it.

Another Fun Holiday!

Yesterday's 4th of July luncheon was another super party. The fried chicken from Publix was crispy & tasty. The side dishes prepared by all our great cooks were outstanding and the desserts were delicious.  We truly had a fun time. Gene & Jean Elliott donated our 4th of July cake.
Our party was hosted by Mary Tyner.  She is a delightful gal who is very much into craft.  She surprised us with door prizes and little pins that she made for each one of us. If you look closely you can see the little patriotic angel she has pinned to her top.
This is one of the little baskets that Mary made and offered as door prizes.  Wish I would have won one. No kidding.  It was just darling.
After lunch, 27 of us stayed and played cardBingo.  It was a fun ending to a fun afternoon.

In the evening I watched the fireworks on PBS and ABC.  Both shows were spectacular. Hope your 4th was as fun as mine.
