FOR TODAY:  It's New Year's Eve

Outside my window... the sun is shining but it's still pretty cold out there

I am thankful...  for all the joys and happiness that blessed us in 2012

In the kitchen...  I'll be trying one of lean cuisine's new salads for lunch today.  They have several to pick from and I chose southwest style chicken and cranberry & chicken.  Click HERE to check them out.

I am wearing... sweat pants & shirt

I am creating...  a new folder for all my 2012 stuff

I am going...  to pack away all my Christmas decos today

I am hoping...  that 2013 brings PEACE to all of us.

Around the house...  it's looking a little naked with all the Christmas decos gone

A favorite quote for today...
"Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors and let every New Year find you a better man".  Benjamin Franklin

One of my favorite things... PBS
I watched the special presentation of CALL THE MIDWIFE last night & I'm looking forward to the series restarting in March.

Thank you!!

To all of you who were kind enough to keep Dick in your thoughts and prayers,  my whole family would like to say:

Merry Christmas

I wasn't sure I would make it here today.  I spent Christmas Eve and day at the hospital with Dad.  He's stable right now and goes for a cardiac cath tomorrow.  Pray all goes well with that.  Not the best of holidays but God spared us the loss of a loved one at such a special time of the year.  So thankful!

Day 8 & Day 9 . . . & Sign the Petitions

Day Eight of CAMJ’s Twelve Days of Christmas, American Style… is  HERE

Day Nine of CAMJ’s Twelve Days of Christmas American Style… is  HERE

Tomorrow is our nation's official day of mourning for the victims of Newtown Connecticut.

To honor the victims and their families please consider clicking on the following links. Thanks.

Here's the way you can find out who your congressperson is in the House of Representatives.

When you get his name, Google him, there will be a contact for him, a phone number or email address you can write to.

This is a petition   to the House of Representatives and the Senate you can sign . . .
Right now, at gun shows, where 40% of guns are purchased, no background checks are required.  We, the people, have to take off our shoes in airports, but anyone, including terrorists (and criminals and mentally ill) can legally buy assault weapons in this country.  A sensible woman does not agree with this.

You can sign a White House petition for better mental health care by clicking  HERE.

Here's  one to ban assault weapons,

Also, Diane Feinstein, Senator from California has a bill ready to go to Ban Assault Weapons and those big clips with hundreds of bullets in them.  She says we should “get weapons of war off the street.” Supporting this woman in her quest is the sensible thing.  Click HERE to sign it.

Wal-mart, you will be happy to learn, has just pulled the Bushmaster Assault Rifle off its shelves. This is a very good sign.

One of the good guys spoke out yesterday, and made me cry.  I detected a little Superman cape around this guy …. perhaps an “S” on his T-shirt. Proud of him. Proud of the way people are coming together to grieve, to pray, and to find answers.  Click  HERE  to see him.

Thanks to Susan Branch  for the links.

If It's Monday . . . Day 7

Day Seven of CAMJ’s Twelve Days of Christmas, American Style is  HERE

FOR TODAY:  It's My Simple Womans Daybook Day

Outside my window... It's Tuesday morning and I'm a day late posting my SWD

I am thinking...  that although I started this entry yesterday stuff happened and I never finished

I am thankful...  that Dad's procedure went well and he's feeling much better.

In the kitchen...  the cupboards are bare & I need to go grocery shopping

I am wearing...  pj's

I am creating... a wi-fi connection.  let me rephrase that.  I tried to install a wifi connection and failed.

I am going...  to rake leaves today and do a quick clean inside

I am wondering...  how to get the keyboard on this new laptop of mine to stop acting so crazy.  I'm typing along and suddenly the letters are somewhere else instead of where they're supposed to be.  It's crazy!

I am reading...  I finished "Hotel Vendome" by Danielle Steel and started "The Perfect Love Song - A Holiday Story" by Patti Hallahan Henry

I am hoping...  that Newtown can somehow find joy and  happiness this Christmas

I am looking forward to...   Christmas

I am learning...  acceptance

Around the house...  our halls are decked with holly

I am pondering...  if our legislators know that gun laws must change

A favorite quote for today...  “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”  Margaret Mead

One of my favorite things... Christmas

12 Days of Christmas . . . Day 4

Day Four of CAMJ’s Twelve Days of Christmas, American Style,

Marine Layer's apparel is made of super soft cotton. Feels wonderful from Day One. Casual t-shirts and polos for men, t-shirts, skirts, sweaters and scarves for women and t-shirts for kids. Check out this super adorable knitted scarf  Comes in a variety of colors. $44.00

Here's an alternative scarf that I actually prefer. It's from a company in NY called   Hooked Productions.
They have several designs and this one is called  spiral-bamboo for $24.00

I think this is a good example of everything made in the USA does not have to be expensive.

12 Days of Christmas . . . Day 3

Tina's MADE IN THE USA gift for today is a comfy slipper made by a company called Wooly Rascals

The price of this beauty is $74.95 so that makes item  #2 that's way too pricey for me.

Maybe # 4 will be more affordable.

Around the house... it's looking Christmasy

A favorite quote for today... "Christmas, children, is not a date. It is a state of mind."  Mary Ellen Chase

One of my favorite things... surprises

A peek into my day... Christopher surprised me with a Apple Cinnamon Crisp Candle when he came on Sunday.  It's made in the U.S.A. by Candle-Lite in Cincinnati OH.  Thanks Chris.

12 Days of Christmas . . . Day 2

"When men are employed they are best contented; for on the days worked they were good-natured and cheerful, and, with the consciousness of having done a good day’s work, they spent the evening jollily; but on our idle days they were munitious and quarrelsome".–Benjamin Franklin, Autobiography

Tina says, "Again: We, the American consumers, wield tremendous power. We need to be smart about how we use it. Seems like the perfect segue to CAMJ’s Twelve Days of Christmas, American Style: Day Two."

Today she suggests some laptop bags.  The ones she suggests are way too expensive for this gal's pocket but if you wanna check them out, please visit Tina @ CAMJ

All I have to share with you today is MAXINE.
Hope everyone is having a great w/e.  It's just gorgeous here in Florida-land.

12 Days of Christmas . . . Day 1

Diane Sawyer on the ABC Evening News claims that if each of us spent $66 on gifts 'made in the USA' a whole lot of jobs would be created.  With that goal in mind, I'm joining Tina Polito @ China Ate My Jeans (CAMJ) in her 12 Days of Christmas gift suggestions.

Today is Day 1  and it's called:

Just Hear Those {USA-Made} Sleigh Bells Jingling…

Have you ever heard of  Lehman's ?  They have hundreds of USA-made products (and some imports; check carefully before you choose). My favorites are those made in Amish country. Here is one item to get you started:

Lehman's Sleigh Bell Door Hangers  $8.95

Yup, real honest to goodness American-made jingle bells.  They come in nickel-plated or brass-plated finish.
These will be perfect hanging on my golf cart.  I'll be sounding like Santa' sleigh going down the street.

Tina says "To me, purchasing gifts Made in the USA is a proactive way to take a stand, show I care, put money to mouth and say thanks to the USA."

I agree! and ordered my sleigh bells and a few other goodies. Wonder what she has for us on Day 2.

HP Printer

Stopped at WalMart after Mass and picked up a printer.  It's a HP Deskjet 1000 J110: 5.5 Black Print Speed 4800 x 1200 dpi Color Print Quality Ink.  All for $29.00.  They had a Cannon for $29.00 too but the ink was more expensive for the Cannon so I chose the HP.  Take a look at my little bargain.
I happened to mention to my salesperson that my Kindle did not come with a charger.  She said just use a USB port on your computer to charge it.  I did!  it worked!  I love that WalMart lady & I love happy endings.  Hope you had a happy Sunday

Happy December 2012

I was so happy when my new little Dell arrived but that turned to not so happy when I found out that I had to buy a new printer to go with my new puter.

My Kindle Fire came today and if you've guessed  more aggravation you'd be right.  The first thing they tell me to do is charge the device, right?  Well, in order to do that I need something called a Kindle PowerFast charging accessory.  Did it come with the Kindle.  Of course not.  Did they ever mention that I would need one of these. Of course not.  So I promptly ordered one from Amazon and it will be here in 7-8 business days.  Oh goodie

All this excitement (aggravation) around here playing with new toys meant I've not had much time for posting or visiting. Sorry! I'll try to do better.

Happy w/e.
