Black Friday

No shopping or pushing thru crowds for me today!  A trip from the farm to home was the only thing on my list for today.

Thanksgiving dinner was just wonderful!  Andy deep fried our turkey this year and it turned out fabulous.  Great idea!  Dinner was dee-lish thanks to Andy's great cooking.

Lisa, bless her heart, brought this lovely centerpiece for us to enjoy during our dinner.

A truly lovely day THANKS to family & friends. Love you guys!

Happy Thanksgiving!

May  your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey be plump,
May your  potatoes and gravy
Have never a lump.
May your yams be  delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your  Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your  thighs!

Happy  Thanksgiving Everyone!

the day before . . .

THANKSGIVING.   There will be 9 of us for dinner tomorrow.  Andy did most of the food prep yesterday.  He's at Rob's Station getting Dad's truck fixed this morning.  Today is my day for food prep.  The ham needs to be glazed, cucumbers sliced for the sour cream cucumber dish and apples cut & cleaned for my baked apple dish.  Christopher's favorite. Here's the little turkey's that will be our napkin rings tomorrow.  I love Thanksgiving! Like them? You can find copy them at the link below.

A Celebration , , ,

On Saturday, I went to "A Celebration of Mary Sender's life" hosted by her children at Mary's house in Floral City.  Mary is the sweet lady I met when I went with the kids to Homosassa Springs for a w/e this summer.  Michelle brought her mother Mary and she & I spent the w/e together.  It was one of those instantly friends kind of things and our plan was to be friends forever.

Our plan however was not meant to be.  Mary started having medical issues shortly after our w/e and she wound up at Shands Hospital in Gainesville where she was diagnosed with lung cancer.  Mary died on the day she was scheduled to start chemo.  Guess she really didn't want to go!

I still do the Netflix thing but had planned on canceling my membership.  Then along came a DVD named "The Way" that I watched it yesterday and really liked it so guess I'll not be canceling just yet.  I even saw the trailer of another one I want to see.
Actually, I think the film should be named "The Walk" and here's why.  When his son ( Emilio Esteves  ) dies while walking the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route in the Pyrenees, a grieving father ( Martin Sheen ) flies to France to claim the remains.  Looking for insights into his estranged child's life, he decides to complete the 500 - mile walk to Spain.

A lovely story that you can relate to even if you are not a parent.  But . . . it has no foul language, no nudity and no violence which is probably why this film didn't get much publicity.

I'll be leaving for my Doctor's appointment shortly so I'll do this when I get home.   I'm home now & here's my answers.

"Hearth and Home"

What does your dream home look like?  Can you describe it inside and out?
I have had several dream houses over the years.

My first dream house was a brand new 8 x 35 foot trailer in St. Louis MO that we lived in while Dad was in the Army.  I had 2 babies in that home.

My second dream house was Cape Cod out in the country in OHIO.  I had 2 more babies in this house for a total of 4.

My third dream house was a ranch in the city of Rockford IL where the kids that now totaled 5, could walk to school.

My fourth dream house was a 4 bedroom center hall colonial in OHIO that was close to work for Dad & me.  Did I mention we moved a lot?

My 5th & current dream house is the little Park Model that I live in at Lake Bonnet Village.  The hubby & kids are gone so that makes this my perfect dream house.  The title of my blog suggests that my home is little.

What style of decorating do you lean toward, or are you an eclectic decorator using whatever is  on  hand?  Styles changed when the house style changed and our family grew.

What about fireplaces or woodstoves? Have one?  Love it too much work?
Don't have one, don't want one. The house at the farm has a fireplace but it's never used.

Describe your idea of the perfect day at home.
Sitting in the Florida room, reading a good book with a Dove Bar in one hand and a hot cup of coffee near.
Thanks to Annie  for the fun meme.

Today is my granddaughter, Jackie's, 30th birthday.  Jackie is the gift that came to our family when Matthew married AnnMarie.  She is the original free spirit who lives life to the fullest and enjoys every minute of it.  God bless you, sweetie! Gramz loves you very much!

Ice Cream & 1963

What could be better than an Ice Cream Social on a Sunday afternoon?  For a small donation of $3.00 you get bowl full of vanilla ice cream and can decorate it with as many toppings as you like.  Dee-lish!!  Today's icecream social was to benefit "The Ringer's".  That's the Horseshoe group here at LBV.

This month we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of President Kennedy's Assasination.  There were programs on National Geographic this evening and more coming on PBS tomorrow.  Watching brings back lots of sad memories for a host of us.

Today a group of us are going to Highlands Hammock State Park to celebrate the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Corp)  annual event at Park.  The CCC was established by President Roosevelt  as part of the nations recoveery following the Depression in the 1930's.  There's the museum that shows the activities of the men that were part of the CCC.  Very interesting with lots of displays to visit.  I always enjoy a hotdog for lunch.

Mini . . . Meme

I entered Apple Land yesterday and bought me a mini ipad.  It comes directly from CHINA (excuse me while I go throw up) on Tuesday the 12th.  Why oh why did I do it?  Buyers remorse is in the air this morning.

Hopefully, I can put CHINA in the back of my mind and learn to love my new purchase.  Gonna do the meme later! Thanks Annie.

Sights and Sounds

1. Do any smells remind you of hor anyone? Do they evoke feelings and emotions for you?
For me it's kitchen smells that are the best.  Cinnamon & I think of apple pie or baked apples,  Coffee brewing has a smell all it's own.  Bay leaves added to a veal stew.  OMG! I'm making myself hungry!

2. Do you have a signature perfume that you love to wear?

Estee Lauder's "White Linen"

 3. What kinds of scents do you find pleasing?
Lilacs & Lavender

 4. Do you enjoy burning candles in your home? What scents do you like?
Anything Yankee Candle has to offer.  Love them all.

 5. If you had to choose one landscape to view every day, would it be a city, farm, forest and country perhaps with pond or lake, or the ocean?
A few cows laying under a tree in the green grass.

6. Do you like to have art hanging in your home? What kind do you like most?
Anything  Charles Wysocki

Bible Study

Today's topic at Bible Study was Faith.  How to get it, why we need it & what to do with it.  I guess it might seem strange for this Catholic girl to go to a Protestant Bible Study class but I'm learning a lot and enjoying the fellowship.

This afternoon is a Doctor appointment  with my favorite Chiropractor and then dinner at Checkers with Rose & Lorraine.  I've never been to that restaurant so who knows . . . I might like it!

Card bingo tonight.  Last week's pot was $9.75.  A really good one but I didn't win one. Maylbe tonight will be my lucky night!!

Doggy Wash Day

It used to be that Dahli went to the groomer once a month.   Her bows stayed in and she looked decent most of the time.  That all changed a few months back when the groomer announced that the price for grooming Dahli was going up from $25 to $32 (that's more than what I pay for my hair).

I called around and apparently that is the going rate here locally so I decided to change her appointment to every 6 weeks instead of every 4 weeks and in between I would bathe her to keep her looking and feeling fresh.  Today is 3 weeks until her next appointment so . . .  that's what we are doing today.  Wish me luck please!

Leaves . . .

Been outside raking leaves for most of the morning.  Came inside and had a Dove bar and a hot coffee.  Sooooo good!  I haven't been able to do much raking here lately.   I've been having trouble with my sciatic nerve since October 4th but it's finally getting better. Soon it will be time to get ready for my Dr. appointment. with my wonderful Chiropractor who has really helped with this  problem.Tonight is Bingo!  Hope yours is a Happy Day!

Friday Nov 1st. . . . HAPPY NOVEMBER.  All Saints Day.  Mass at 8 am.  Cards at 6:15 pm.

Yesterday's burgers were the best.  Possibly the best I've ever had.  They were the large bubba burgers approx 4 inches round and half and inch thick.  They were well cooked but not enough to make them taste like shoe leather.  Goo d job Ron.
Saturday Nov. 2nd . . . Truly Nolen comes to re-treat my house for termites.
