oh yes!

Florida is supposed to be warm and sunny but it is cold and rainy here again today.  That means I'm not in such a good mood.  But . . . I found this picture on Andy's page and thought it was just precious and so I had to share it here!
Hope that someone, somewhere has some sun today!

All of you affected by the freezing temps are in my thoughts & prayers. Hugz!

It's still unseasonably cold here and most of us are hiding out in our houses instead of being at the pool and that means there's plenty of time for day dreaming.  So this meme from Annie is just about perfect right now.

This one is about "Day Dreaming"

1. Where would you live if you could live anywhere in the world? Exactly where I am, in Florida
2. Do you have a favorite city? yes    If so, what is it? Sarasota
3. What car would you have if money was no object? Lexus
4.  What kind of house would you have if you could have any one you desired? My very own cozy little cottage
5.  Is there a special event/or sight you have always wanted to see?  There's got to be something but for the life of me I can't think of what it is. Sad, huh?
6. What is your dream vacation destination?  Prince Edward Island where Anne of Green Gables was filmed.
Thanks to Annie for another fun meme.

Went to the movies last Friday planning to see "Saving Mr. Banks".  When we got there, we changed our minds and decided to see "August: Osage County".  BIG MISTAKE.  In a word, it was AWFUL.  Why would 2 such talented ladies be part of such a disaster?  During the film, you heard the F*** word at least 1000 times. Disgusting.  Depressing story line plus filthy language makes this film JUNK VIEWING.  Can you tell I'll be sticking to Disney movies in the future?

How much?

I try to keep things on the fun side here but every once in a while something happens  that's not so funny & this is one those times.  For lack of a better title, I'm going to call this my "THIS TAKES THE CAKE" story.

First, let me explain the graphic.  The butterfly shaped thing in the graphic to the left is a thyroid gland.   The 4 little yellow things are parathyroid glands.  These glands are in no way connected to each other except they are neighbors.  That's it.  OK so now you know what the picture means.

My primary physician thinks I have parathyroid disease so he has referred me to a clinic in Tampa called the Norman Parathyroid Center for evaluation.  Fortunately, they accept almost every insurance for the cost of the operation, including Medicare.  Our hospital, anesthesia team, x-ray, etc will also accept almost all insurance payments for the operation.
(The rest is taken from their website word for word.)

HOWEVER, There is a $750.00 Consultation Fee that is charged to all Florida patients who go through our standard phone consultation process.

This fee provides you with unparalleled access to the world's most experienced parathyroid team. You will be assigned to one of our coordinators who will be your contact person throughout this process (and for years after your operation). Your information will be gathered and organized from your doctors and then entered into our huge database of tens of thousands of parathyroid patients we have cured. Almost all cases are reviewed by at least 2 of our surgeons who will then determine what your best course of action should be.

One of the experts will call you on the phone and consult with you about your parathyroid disease, putting it in context with over 25,000 other patients that they have seen and our computer has analyzed. We will provide advice and consultation regarding your parathyroid status, your osteoporosis, your thyroid issues (nodules, etc) and your vitamin D status.

IMPORTANT! Your insurance will not pay this consultation fee and it will be your responsibility. Of course this fee saves you the costs of an office visit, a day of travel to and from Tampa, and a night in a hotel.. and gets you the opinion of the most experienced parathyroid doctors in the world. However, this fee is NOT billable to your insurance company, so don't ask them to pay it--they will not--it is not their responsibility.

Out of State Patients must pay a $1750 Consultation Fee. If you don't live in Florida, this is you.

OK I know what you're thinking . . . I'm lucky I live in Florida. Right?  Yeah I know! So I'll not be complaining anymore.  They are allowing me to make payments of $125.00/month for the next 6 months for a total of $750 interest free.  Nice of them, huh?

Lesson:  don't get old, don't get sick and have plenty of money set aside for your retirement.

new golf cart

Whooppee! Got me a new golf cart today!  Isn't she a beauty? Her name is Cashmere cause that's the name of the color she is and I can't seem to think of  a better name at the moment.

Poor Bessie just got too worn out and needed a lot of work so I traded her in.  I'm sooooooo glad that people don't get traded in when they get worn out and need a lot of work, aren't you?

Garage & Bake Sale

Today is our Annual Garage & Bake Sale. I sold 9 dozen donuts with a cup of coffee to match for $1.00 from 8 to 11 o'clock this morning.

If you've been to a restaurant lately, you'll agree  that's really quite a bargain.  We also sold funnel cakes, 80 of them for $2.00 each.

Our Community Hall was filled with tables full of stuff for sale.  There were some really good bargains out there.  I have to take a picture of my new little jacket that I got for $5.00.

Dahli and I will go to Joyce's for a while and then we go to a Birthday party at 4 o'clock.  Everyone has to bring an orange for the birthday boy.  They are a new couple in the Village so this will be like a Greet & Meet.  Gotta go!

Caden and January Meme

Today is my great-grandson, Caden's 6th Birthday.

Love this new little picture of him.  It was a year in September '13 since I've seen him but I'm so glad that Dad & I got to take that trip to California to see all our beautiful grandchildren that live there.

I love you, little guy and hope you have a fabulous day!

January Meme from Annie

How about talking about the changing calendar....

1  Do you look forward to a new year or do you feel nostalgic for the old? A little bit of both, I think.  Every year has the special times that I really enjoyed.  On the other hand, I always wonder what adventures the New Year holds.
2. We are off to a cold start this January.  Are you hoping for an early spring or are you going to enjoy an icy winter time? Summertime where are you?
3. Do you like winter sports ?  Not so much but two of my boys played hockey so like it or not, I was a hockey fan.  What kind? Personally, my fave WAS cross country.
4. What is your ideal way to spend a  cold winter day?  I prefer that they don't happen.  That's why I live in FL but since they happen anyway . . . watching an old movie or reading a good book always helps.
5. Do you have a favorite winter meal that you love when the temperatures dip way down? Soup, soup and more soup.
6. How do you spend your time when the day is cold and blustery outside? Cooking, reading or watching TV.
7. Do you like to complain about cold/weather/snow/rain or do you just make the best of it all? You bet I complain . . . to anyone who will listen.

Thanks to Annie for today's meme.

Brrr . . .

Currently, our temps are in the 70's.  They will fall to the 50's around noon when the winds pick up and then will start to drop to freezing.

It's getting close to Strawberry festival time here so the growers will be running the sprinklers all night to keep the fruit from freezing.

I'll be getting my plants into the shed this morning to protect them and then I'll cover the inground plants with terry towels.

I know that many of you are in a much worse condition than we are so I pray that we all survive the freeze as painlessly as possible.  Stay warm!!

New Read . . .

Finished reading "The Courage Tree" a few days ago.  Turned out to be a really good read with a tad of romance, adventure and mystery.  It's a happy ending which always pleases me.

Yesterday I went searching my library for a new ebook to read.  Ours is a small town and therefore we have a small town library but the selection of ebooks is really impressive.  I chose "The Language of Flowers" by Vanessa Diffenbaugh.

A little bit about the book.  After a childhood spent in the foster-care system, Victoria Jones is unable to get close to anybody and her only connection to the world is through flowers and their meanings. Now eighteen and emancipated from the system with nowhere to go, Victoria realizes she has a gift for helping others through the flowers she chooses for them. But an unexpected encounter with a mysterious stranger has her questioning what’s been missing in her life. And when she’s forced to confront a painful secret from her past, she must decide whether it’s worth risking everything for a second chance at happiness. Source:
